LANG & HEYNE Introduces the “MANUFAKTUR EDITION” OF THE ANTON MODEL

Limited Edition of 5 Exquisite Timepieces.

Lang & Heyne – based in Dresden, Germany, is among the most prestigious of German timepiece brands. Lang & Heyne was founded by Marco Lang and Mirko Heyne in 2001, both of whom are no longer with their namesake brand. Lang & Heyne timepiece families include Friedrich III, Friedrich II, Anton, Moritz, Georg, Friedrich August, Johann, and Albert. All are named after former Rulers of Saxony. Lang & Heyne is a gem in the world of haute horology, as well as German horology. Their timepieces epitomize superb handcraftsmanship and gorgeous movement finishing while allowing the customer a range of personalization options.

Design:

The Anton family, a rectangular timepiece with a tourbillon, was introduced in 2018. Launched in November 2023, the “Manufaktur Edition” of the Anton Model is based on the Anton, featured in Lang & Heyne’s current catalogue, available in rose gold or platinum, and with a white enamel dial. In their own words, the Anton “Manufaktur Edition” is “a limited collection comprising only 5 exquisite timepieces, paying homage to exceptional craftsmanship and innovation.”  The “Manufaktur Edition” transforms the Anton from a formal timepiece to one which is slightly more daring and edgy, while still retaining the classic Lang & Heyne design elements.

Case:

The Anton “Manufaktur Edition” is a rectangular timepiece crafted in platinum. The dimensions without lugs are 40mm * 32mn, and a height of 9.4mm. It has the signature Lang & Heyne three-lugs on both top and bottom. Both the dial side and caseback have sapphire crystal. The timepiece is water-resistant up to 3-bar.

On the right side of the case is the signature Lang & Heyne onion crown. “The black onyx stone with a cabochon cut accentuates the elegance of the Grand Onion Crown, a highlight of the sophisticated style of this collection.”

A black alligator leather strap with shark leather lining, with either a pin buckle or folding clasp is provided with the timepiece.

Dial and Flying Tourbillon:

The Anton “Manufaktur Edition” dial is crafted from black ceramic, and has a dark grey, givre-finished base plate. “The captivating dial made of black ceramic and a dark grey, givre-finished base plate underscores our mastery in handling advanced materials. The use of ceramic, known for its pressure-resistant and low-specific-density properties, significantly contributes to the scratch resistance of the dial, ensuring a robust and detailed dial. The addition of Pike hands filled with HyCeram and the laser-engraved numerals and scales, filled with Berlac ink, ensure optimal readability and exquisite detailing.”

The top 3/4 of the dial is occupied by a circular sub-dial which displays the hours and minutes. The hour markers are Roman numerals, with a railroad minutes track on the edge of the subdial. On the railroad minutes track, a blue-diamond denotes the minute (in place of the regular minute-marker) on the right of III, left of IX, and top of XII. Where there would be a Roman IV, V, and VI on the dial, is occupied by a Flying Tourbillon, which is the lower 1/4 of the dial. On the tourbillon cage, one of the three end-screws is the same blue as the three blue-diamond minute-markers. These blue accents are a lovely and thoughtful detail, and contrast beautifully with the black ceramic dial. The lyra-shaped cage of the tourbillon displays the seconds.

“The flying minute-tourbillon is the most noble of complications and features a delicately designed cantilever cage, three-pronged golden nib for enhanced shock resistance, a fixed seconds wheel, and two expertly set diamonds.”

“The term “flying” tourbillon gains new meaning as the lower section of the dial opens up, offering a unique perspective. Peer through the dial, past the tourbillon cage, and capture a lateral glimpse into the heart of the tourbillon. The rehaut functions as a mirror, enabling enthusiasts to scrutinize the intricate mechanics and finesse of the tourbillon. This refined design element elevates visual allure and exploration, encapsulating innovation fused with a deep reverence for horological craftsmanship.”

Calibre:

The Anton “Manufaktur Edition” is powered by Lang & Heyne’s in-house manual-winding Calibre IX. Its functions are hours, minutes, and seconds via the lyra-shaped cage of the flying tourbillon. This phenomenal calibre comprises of 163 parts, 17 rubies, 2 brilliant cut diamonds, beats at 18,000 semi-oscillations per hour or 2.5 Hz, and has a power reserve of 55 hours. Its dimensions are 34mm * 26.5mm, and a height of 5.5mm. Calibre IX is visible via a sapphire caseback.

“Lang & Heyne’s tourbillon undergoes notable enhancements, showcasing constructive refinements in its construction. This “flying” one-minute tourbillon, inspired by Alfred Helwig’s design, boasts exceptional craftsmanship. Modifications include improving the shockproof spring and anchor components, aiming to enhance precision. The anchor, now comprising two bodies, enables finer adjustments, while the redesigned shockproof spring ensures easier mounting without the risk of damage. Complementing these improvements, a newly crafted steel bridge provides a sturdy platform for the tourbillon’s intricate and captivating performance, highlighting our dedication to innovation and precision in horological craftsmanship. The architecture of the movement now offers a more pleasing aesthetic, effectively illustrating the mechanical operation in a manual winding movement.”

Lang & Heyne calibres are beautifully finished and have a gorgeous and original aesthetic. Calibre IX is no exception.
