JEN Hangzhou by Shangri-La Opens with 176 new rooms

• JEN Hangzhou by Shangri-La has soft-opened inside Hangzhou Kerry Plaza, on the former site of the historic Hangzhou Oxygen Plant. • The hotel holds 176 rooms and suites, the OpenHouse restaurant, a pool beneath a glass atrium and more than 330 square metres of event space. • Opening rates start from RMB 762 per room per night on direct bookings.

Shangri-La Group has brought its JEN brand to Hangzhou for the first time. JEN Hangzhou by Shangri-La opened in August 2026 with a soft launch, arriving as the tenth JEN property worldwide. It also sits on ground with an industrial past, since the hotel occupies the former Hangzhou Oxygen Plant site in Gongshu District, tucked inside Hangzhou Kerry Plaza. Instead of erasing that history, the design keeps it in plain view. The brand calls this its “Live New Asia” spirit, and the hotel aims as much at the local community as at visitors.

Where is JEN Hangzhou by Shangri-La?

The hotel sits in Gongshu District, north of the city centre. The Grand Canal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, runs nearby, and the Qiaoxi Historic District is within easy reach. West Lake also appears on the list of nearby landmarks. Getting around stays simple too, since the hotel connects directly to Hangyang Station on Metro Line 5, with the Wulin Star Expo Center next door. That access suits a weekend of wandering and a week of meetings equally well.

What does the design look like?

Brick walls in an industrial style anchor the interiors, so the old plant still shows through. Floor-to-ceiling glass then softens the effect and pulls daylight deep into the building. The two materials work against each other on purpose, which gives the hotel the feel of a modern urban residence rather than a polished box.

Artworks carry the same thread. They draw on Hangzhou’s urban culture and the legacy of the Grand Canal, reading the city’s long relationship with water through a contemporary lens.

What are the rooms like at JEN Hangzhou by Shangri-La?

JEN Hangzhou by Shangri-La has 176 guestrooms and suites. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame either the city skyline or stretches of greenery, while the layouts stay uncluttered. Deluxe Rooms and above add double bathtubs. Every suite, meanwhile, comes with a private outdoor terrace, turning a city view into a place to sit at sunrise or late in the evening.

What can you eat at OpenHouse?

OpenHouse is the hotel’s restaurant, and it looks to Hangzhou first. Local flavours and regional ingredients lead the menu, though the kitchen keeps the register approachable rather than formal.

Jiangnan classics arrive in contemporary form, alongside Western favourites and Southeast Asian dishes. The range covers an ordinary lunch, a working meeting and a family dinner in one setting. For anyone moving quickly, OpenHouse also runs a Grab & Go breakfast of light bites, coffee and signature drinks.

What wellness facilities does the hotel have?

JEN Active handles the fitness side. A 24-hour fitness centre means jet lag is no excuse, while an indoor heated pool sits beneath a glass atrium, so daylight reaches the water. A sauna follows for the wind-down.

Beyond that, the hotel runs a recovery-focused spa. The team personalises each treatment, blending Asian wellness practice with modern recovery science for guests working towards a specific goal.

Can you host an event at JEN Hangzhou?

Yes, and the layout stays flexible. JEN Society covers more than 330 square metres, split between a 240 square metre ballroom and a 90 square metre venue that adapts to smaller gatherings. Both come with advanced audiovisual technology.

An outdoor lawn on the seventh floor further expands the options. Corporate sessions, private celebrations, small weddings and garden parties all fit, which is a useful range for a hotel of this size.
