Jeep teases its upcoming Self-driving Off-Road Driving Technology

A video showcases two prototype models going off-road remotely

Autonomous or self-driving car technology is being developed by brands across the globe but off-road autonomous capabilities? Now, that’s an entirely different ball game. And which firm better than Jeep to get their hands, or in this case, sensors and radars dirty in the mud for such a task.

While coinciding with the National Autonomous Vehicle Day in the US, the American SUV brand shared a glimpse of its off-road autonomous testing progress along with the latest prototypes.

Neda Cvijetic, Head of AI & Autonomous Driving at Stellantis, took a team and two electrified Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe prototype models outfitted with AI and autonomous off-road driving technology to Moab, Utah. Moab’s uneven and challenging terrains are a favourite among the Jeep community for off-roading activities, and the same was utilised to test out the forthcoming autonomous off-road driving technology by the lifestyle brand.

“In the same way that our 4xe electrification takes Jeep brand’s off-road capability to new heights, these advanced off-road driving systems will help more customers in more countries around world join and enjoy the adventure. These features and technology will have real-life applications on and off the trail in a wide range of driving conditions,” said Christian Meunier Jeep brand CEO.

A full video showcasing the advanced autonomous off-road driving technology is slated to get released by the brand in this summer.
