Honda CBR500R FOUR Unveiled With 502cc Inline-Four Engine and E-Clutch Technology

The Honda CBR500R FOUR debuts with a 502cc inline-four engine, 69.5bhp, E-Clutch technology, five riding modes and a 5-inch TFT display.

Japanese motorcycle giant Honda has introduced the CBR500R FOUR, a new middleweight sportbike featuring a 502cc inline-four engine, Honda E-Clutch technology and an advanced electronic rider-aid package.

What engine does the Honda CBR500R FOUR use?

The Honda CBR500R FOUR ditches the 471cc parallel-twin engine of its predecessor, instead using a newly developed 502cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC inline-four engine. The engine develops its peak torque of 46.3Nm at 10,500 rpm.

Honda has also equipped the new middleweight supersports with Honda’s proprietary E-Clutch, a system designed to manage clutch operation during starts, stops and gear changes without requiring the rider to operate the clutch lever in normal use.

What electronic rider aids does it get?

The new CBR500R FOUR features  Honda Selectable Torque, throttle-by-wire and five selectable riding modes: Standard, Sport, Urban and two User modes. The User settings allow riders to configure the motorcycle’s electronic responses to suit their preferences.

What features are available on the instrument display?

The Honda CBR500R FOUR features a 5-inch TFT display that serves as the motorcycle’s instrument panel and supports Honda RoadSync connectivity, which offers smartphone connectivity. The motorcycle features an all-around LED lighting system with an Emergency Stop Signal System.

What chassis, suspension and brakes does it use?

For the new CBR500R FOUR, Honda has developed a steel diamond frame using the engine as a structural element, riding on 17-inch wheels with a 120/70 ZR17 front tyre and a 160/60 ZR17 rear tyre. According to Honda, this arrangement enables a lighter, more rigid foundation intended to create agile and responsive riding dynamics.

The suspension consists of a 41mm KYB upside-down front fork with 120mm of stroke and a rear Pro-Link monoshock with preload adjustment. An aluminium swingarm is used at the rear.

Braking is handled by twin 296mm front discs with radial-mounted, two-piston Nissin callipers and a rear disc, supported by two-channel ABS.

What does the Honda CBR500R FOUR bring to the middleweight segment?

The new CBR500R FOUR expands Honda’s middleweight supersports lineup with an inline four-cylinder engine and a substantial modern electronic package consisting of E-Clutch, selectable riding modes, traction control, wheelie control and smartphone connectivity
