2027 BMW M 1000 RR Gets Racing-Derived M Motorsport Frame

The 2027 BMW M 1000 RR gets a third-generation M Motorsport frame, featuring a 1.3 kg weight reduction and race-derived engineering.

BMW Motorrad has introduced a third-generation M Motorsport frame for the 2027 BMW M 1000 RR. The updated frame is made of aluminium and incorporates engineering insights from BMW’s global motorcycle racing efforts. The frame will be seen on the M 1000 RR superbike as standard from the 2027 model year.

BMW Motorrad says the M Motorsport frame project benefits both its racing programs while trickling down the race-bred engineering onto the road-going models.

What is new about the 2027 BMW M 1000 RR frame?

The third-generation M Motorsport frame is constructed to be 1.3 kg lighter than its predecessor, while its wall thicknesses have been reduced by up to 30 per cent. BMW engineers have also revised the frame’s stiffness and flexibility characteristics to transmit braking, steering and drive forces better.

How does the new frame improve handling?

The new frame’s revised flex characteristics play a key role in the motorcycle’s handling dynamics. The new frame can flex laterally by a defined amount when the motorcycle is leaned over, aiding the suspension to absorb inputs from the road surface.

BMW Motorrad has retained its high level of longitudinal stiffness to ensure stability and enhance feedback under heavy braking. The new frame aims to offer balanced, controlled flexibility during cornering with stability and predictable responses under heavy loads.

How is the M Motorsport frame manufactured?

The development process of the new M Motorsport frame is done in three phases at three different facilities in Germany: Munich, Landshut and Berlin.

Munich (1st Phase): Here BMW Motorrad’s development team handles the frame’s initial design, geometry, simulation and testing. The design is validated through simulations, test rigs and riding tests.

Landshut (2nd Phase): Once the production data is approved, the team at Landshut proceeds with casting the aluminium components.

Berlin (3rd Phase): Here, the cast components are TIG-welded together, coated for corrosion protection, finish-machined and measured before approval for motorcycle assembly.

When will the new BMW M 1000 RR frame be available?

The third-generation M Motorsport frame will be standard equipment on the BMW M 1000 RR from model year 2027.
