Girard-Perregaux celebrates with the new Laureato 42 mm Infinite Grey

Girard-Perregaux has introduced the Laureato 42 mm Infinite Grey. Featuring a grey grand feu enamel dial, it celebrates the Laureato’s 50th anniversary. The Laureato collection debuted in 1975.

Key Features

Functions

Central hours, minutes, and seconds.

Date at 3 o’clock.

Dial

Grey grand feu enamel dial with a flinqué sunray pattern.

Baton-shaped hour and minute hands, seconds hand, hour-markers, and GP logo are rhodium-plated.

The grand feu enamel dial was crafted in-house in the Sowind Group, of which Girard-Perregaux and Ulysse Nardin are a part of. The Laureato Japan ‘Aiiro’ editions also feature grand feu enamel dials.

“The enamel is composed of a precise mixture of silica, minium, potash, and soda, finely ground into powder, and combined with metal oxides to achieve its nuanced hue. Layered carefully onto the dial, it is then fired at around 800°C in a kiln—repeated five to ten times—to achieve its flawless, radiant surface. Due to the unpredictability of this process, some of the dials are rejected as they feature slight imperfections. But those that survive emerge as enduring masterpieces—impervious to time, fading, or aging.”

“Adding to the allure of its subtly bluish grey colour, a sunray flinqué motif lies beneath the translucent enamel layer, revealing both the dial’s brilliance and its sense of depth. The choice naturally fell on enamel for this Laureato: a texture that gives the dial depth and subtle variations in colour. It is also a captivating material, selected to eternally adorn this new timepiece, unchanging as time passes.”

Our Thoughts

Image: An iconic and timeless design.

Girard-Perregaux’s Laureato is now half a century old. It sits in the much sought after segment of versatile watches with an integrated bracelet (there are models with leather and rubber straps as well).

The Laureato 42 mm Infinite Grey ticks several boxes. Grand feu enamel dial. Stainless steel case and integrated bracelet. Wearable proportions. In-house automatic movement. Versatility – equally at ease as a casual and a formal watch. All this at an accessible price of USD$ 17,900. Similar watches from other haute-horology brands are a lot harder to obtain and a great deal more expensive.

We have covered several versions of the Laureato (please click here, here, here, and here). There is a Laureato for most preferences and budgets, any one of which is a terrific addition in most watch collections.
