“This new 40.50mm version introduces a new and timeless case and dial design, as well as new finishing combinations, complementing the ones of the Maison’s highly successful 42mm model.

This new iteration caters to the aesthetic preferences and usability expectations of an important segment of the community, offering a versatile and comfortable alternative to the classic larger size model.”

Frederique Constant Group comprises of Frederique Constant, Alpina Watches and Ateliers DeMonaco, and is part of Japan’s Citizen Group since 2016.

Watch Angels is a Swiss crowd manufacturing platform.

The Worldtimer Manufacture has been “co-designed, co-developed, and co-produced,” by both Frederique Constant and Watch Angels. It is a limited edition of 718 pieces.

Key Features

Functions and Operation

Central hours, minutes, and seconds.

24-hour disc indicating time with a day and night indicator.

24 time-zone world time function indicated by a city disc.

All functions operated by the crown at 3 o’clock.

Crown pulled out 1st position – set the city disc (aligning it with local time with midday position at 12 o’clock).

Crown pulled out 2nd position – set central hours and minutes. The 24-hour disc adjusts automatically.

Dial

Three-piece dial in different shades of blue.

Rhodium hour, minute, and seconds hand are hand polished.

Blue sunray finished inner dial features 13 (2 for 12 o’clock) applied rhodium hour markers, and a circular grained minute scale graduated in increments of 5 minutes each.

Two-tone matt blue 24-hour disc encircles inner dial. Daylight is indicated from (approximately) 6 hours to 18 hours in a lighter shade of blue with an applied polished gold semi-hemisphere sun on 12 hours (midday). Night is indicated from (approximately) 18 to 6 in a darker shade of blue with an applied silver polished and sandblasted semi-hemisphere crescent moon on 24 hours (midnight).

Inclined matt blue 24 time zone city-disc encircles the 24-hour disc. Full names are used for the cities. The red colour “GMT” and “+1” after Geneva contrast well with the different shades of blue, rhodium hands and hour markers, and white markings on the dial.

Our Thoughts

Image: Beautiful details.

The Frederique Constant + Watch Angels Worldtimer Manufacture is a beautiful watch. It’s dial execution, case design and smaller diameter appeal to me a great deal more than the brand’s impressive Classic Worldtimer Manufacture.

In addition to the usefulness of its world time function, it will be a lovely sight and conversation piece at watch GTGs. A versatile world time watch and a compelling addition to any watch collection.

The collaboration with Watch Angles highlights Frederique Constant’s forward-thinking nature, one that is open to “experimentation and innovation.” This same mindset enables them to develop the relatively affordable Classic Tourbillon Manufacture.

I hope Frederique Constant keeps a version of this 40.50 mm edition in their permanent catalogue. Perhaps they can experiment with different dial designs and colours. Such a model would be among the most sought-after world time watches among collectors globally.
