Bulgari unveils the Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC
At 1.70 mm thick, it is thinner than a coin, and is both the thinnest mechanical watch and the thinnest COSC-certified chronometer in the world.

Bulgari has unveiled the record-breaking Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC at Watches and Wonders Geneva 2024. It is an ultra-thin regulator display hours-minutes-seconds watch.
Building on the 1.8 mm thin Octo Finissimo Ultra of 2022, Bulgari’s R&D department, together with Concepto of Switzerland (experts in complex horological mechanisms) have further pushed the envelope to create the 1.7 mm Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC, the “thinnest mechanical watch ever produced” and “the world’s thinnest COSC chronometer.”

Key Features
– Its caseback functions as the mainplate of its mechanical hand-wound calibre BVL 180, upon which its 170 components are assembled. These components are meticulously chosen using 1/10-micron optical measuring systems, as only the components “closest to the perfect dimension” meet the demanding criteria of this ultra-thin timepiece. Furthermore, being a COSC-certified calibre adds its own levels of complexity.
– Tungsten carbide, a hard and ultra-resistant material is chosen for the caseback / mainplate, as it ensures the necessary levels of rigidity required for the 40 mm case diameter and 1.70 mm case thickness.
– The surface area of the open-worked dial side has been cleverly utilised, incorporating the hours, minutes, small seconds, escapement, ratchet wheel and other calibre features.
– The QR code on the ratchet wheel is now converted to a miniaturised Datamatrix, located on the lower left of its caseback side. “It provides all the data relating to the watch and invites you on a personal journey into the Bulgari universe. With images and videos, it provides a better understanding of the quest for ultimate finesse, the special skills and ingenuity that went into the creation of the Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC.”
– The owner of this phenomenal watch does not need to wind and set the time him or herself. It comes with a dedicated case with a digital display. Once the desired time is programmed, and adjustment cycle initiated by pressing a button, the time is set, and watch wound – all in a matter of seconds.
Calibre
The Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC is powered by in-house mechanical hand-wound ultra-thin calibre BVL 180. It is 1.50 mm thick, features a regulator style display for hours and minutes and is COSC-certified. It comprises of 170 components, has 21 jewels, beats at a frequency of 28,800 vph or 4 Hz and has a power reserve of 50 hours.
Case, Dial and Bracelet
The Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC’s octagonal case is crafted in titanium. It has a case diameter of 40 mm and a case thickness of 1.70 mm. It features sandblasted titanium lugs, bezel, and middle case. Its caseback, that also functions as its mainplate, is crafted in tungsten carbide. Both the winding wheel (8 – 8.30 o’clock left side of case) and time-setting wheel (3 o’clock right side of case) are crafted in sandblasted stainless steel and feature a satin finish. The large ratchet wheel (top left of case) is crafted in sandblasted stainless steel and engraved with text and a geometric pattern.
It features an openworked dial. The subdials for hours (top right of case) and subdial for minutes (bottom right of case) are crafted in sandblasted brass and feature grey PVD coating and white hours and minutes markers and text. The hour and minute hands are crafted in polished brass with rhodium coating. The small seconds wheel (bottom centre – between the minutes subdial and escapement) features a satin finish and black indicators.
Its integrated bracelet is crafted in sandblasted titanium and has a thickness of 1.50 mm. It features an integrated folding buckle.
