Depancel unveils the Serie-R Tangerine Chronograph

Depancel is a French independent watch brand, founded in 2018 by Clément Meynier, an engineer and a motorsports enthusiast. He founded Depancel as a brand for motorsports enthusiasts.

“Depancel is the contraction of Delage, Panhard and Facel Vega, three French manufacturers whose cars were instruments made for the pleasure of driving. Inspired by their philosophy and creative freedom, Depancel wishes to share these values with those who love beautiful watchmaking.” 

Depancel have just unveiled the car grille inspired Série-R Tangerine Chronograph.

Dial and Functions

Its dial is blue and features a “two-tone orange and blue finish.”  A tachymeter scale – graduated in increments of 5 minutes – encircles the rectangular dial. Outside the tachymeter scale, the blue dial features vertical stripes – resembling a car grille, and inside the tachymeter scale, it features a sunburst finish. A bright orange and white band features vertically from 7 o’clock to 11 o’clock. The 8-hour markers (partly inside the tachymeter scale and partly outside it) and the skeletonized hour and minute hands are coated with luminescent material. All the chronograph hands – central chronograph seconds hand, 30-minute counter and 12-hour counter – are in tangerine orange.

Its functions are:

– Central hours and minutes.

– Central chronograph seconds hand.

– 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock.

– 12-hour counter at 9 o’clock.

– Small seconds at 6 o’clock.

– Stop-seconds function.

Its case is crafted from 316L stainless steel and features polished and brushed finishes. Its case dimensions are 40 * 36 mm, a case thickness of 13.30 mm and lug-to-lug width of 48.50 mm. On its dial side it features a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, and a screw-down transparent caseback. It is water resistant up to 50 metres or 5 ATM.

It features a blue racing leather strap with orange stitching and comes with a deployant or pin buckle.

Calibre

It is powered by mechanical automatic calibre Peacock SL-4801, “that’s only just arrived on the market”, and has been evaluated in-house by Depancel. It has a diameter of 30.50 mm and a thickness of 6.50 mm. It has 41 jewels, beats at a frequency of 28,800 vph or 4 Hz and has a power reserve of approximately 60 hours. It is visible via a sapphire caseback.
