The small group of off-road oriented EVs is getting another competitor. Joining the likes of the Cybertruck, Rivian R1T, and the Hummer EV is the Silverado EV Trail Boss. The latter competitor shares some of its DNA to get the Silverado EV through rough terrain a bit more easily.
The Silverado EV Trail Boss will come with a 2” lift, which is touted as being 24% higher than base. The coils are uniquely tuned with hydraulic rebound, and it even comes with “Sidewinder”. Similar to Crab Walk on the Hummer, Sidewinder allows all four wheels to turn in the same direction and allows ‘Bishop on the chess board’ style diagonal movements.

But is this checkmate or more of a stalemate? The power figures definitely say this truck means winning. Extended battery pack with a max towing of 12,500lbs and 2,100lbs of payload and a 725 horsepower and 775 lb.-ft of torque are the biggest numbers you can get—unlike the Hummer, which has one-million-pound feet of torque advertised, Chevy is giving us honest numbers.
“The Silverado EV Trail Boss delivers similar capability expected with other Chevy Trail Bosses,” said Joe Roy, chief engineer for Silverado EV. “It’s an impressive truck that will meet the needs of our customers looking to get off-trail and still have all the features customers have come to love about Silverado EV, including range and off-road power.”

Along with the off-road suspension, Terrain mode is available with sharper 4-wheel steering and the ability to control torque better at slow speeds. The Trail Boss gets high-angle front fascia, 35” tires, special badging, and sporty-looking red tow hooks. White Sands, Polar White Tricoat, and Magnus Grey Matte Metallic are all the new colors, with nine total colors available. The Trail Boss with Max battery pack has a range estimate of 478 miles at starts at $88,695.
Cheers!
