The 2024 Beijing Auto Show saw a flurry of new car launches, a tradition at every global auto show and Chinese carmaker Chery Automobile extended that tradition by unveiling its Tiggo 9 PHEV SUV.
Positioned as the new flagship of the Tiggo family in Chery’s product line-up, the Tiggo 9 PHEV boasts premium features comprising a 15.6-inch 2.5K resolution infotainment screen on the inside and a strong exterior with 20-inch multi-spoke wheels on the outside. Powering the Tiggo 9 PHEV is a 1.5-litre turbo engine mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox producing 234hp and 385Nm torques. The petrol-powered engine gets coupled with a 3DHT electric motor that by itself produces 221hp, aiding acceleration and efficiency. Chery claims the combined plug-in hybrid setup allows the Tiggo 9 PHEV to offer a range beyond 1400 kilometres under the WLTC cycle. Chery aims to launch the petrol and PHEV versions of the Tiggo 9 family across the globe by the fourth quarter of 2024.
The brand’s press conference at the 2024 Auto China saw the attendance of 3,000 guests from 80 countries and regions around the world. The unveiling was followed by a speech by Mr. Zhu Shaodong, CEO of CHERY International BG, reflecting upon the Tiggo family’s 20-year development journey. Mr Zhu emphasized that the Tiggo Series is highly favoured by families who prioritize career advancement and their loved ones. These users consistently strive to create better living conditions for their families, embodying the spirit of the Tiggo family’s motto: “Conquer with you, Guard for love.”
