After months of waiting and seeing only camouflaged prototypes, the Cadillac Celestiq finally decides to show itself. The result is impressive to say the least. The American brand wants to make the Celestiq its flagship and has given itself the means to achieve its ambitions. The car sets new standards in terms of technology, presentation and technique. Rolls-Royce and Mercedes are the obvious targets.
Visually, the Celestiq already has a very streamlined silhouette worthy of a concept car. Standing on wheels with a diameter of up to 23 inches, the sedan exudes a level of elegance never before seen on a series production model. The front end, with a false grille and upright headlights, is taken from the Lyriq SUV. In profile, the Celestiq shows off its Shooting Brake bodywork with a sloping roofline.
The car has no door handles to further enhance its design. The doors open electronically. As for the rear, it is characterized by astonishing boomerang-shaped taillights made up of 1600 diodes. On board, it’s also a great show. The sleek dashboard has a 55-inch screen and an 11-inch touchscreen located between the front occupants. In the rear, passengers also have two 12.6-inch screens and an 8-inch screen.
The panoramic roof is divided into four zones allowing more or less sunlight to pass through on demand. Also, the individual rear seats are electric, heated, massaged, ventilated and have an Airscarf neck heating function. The equipment will be extensive, including level 3 semi-autonomous driving, four-wheel steering, air suspension and over-the-air updates.
On the technical side, the Celestiq is based on the Ultium platform, which allows the installation of a 111 kWh battery for a range of 483 km. The maximum charging power is 200 kW, while the two electric motors will deliver 600 PS. The Cadillac Celestiq will go into production at the end of 2023 and will be available in 2024. Prices are unknown but are expected to be in the $300,000 range.
