BMW India Launches 50 Jahre M Edition Of The 6 Series

It becomes the second of the ten planned launches of celebratory iterations this year.

In case you aren’t aware, BMW Motorsport (the beloved M division) is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. And on this occasion, BMW has decided to introduce limited-run 50 Jahre M Edition versions of various models globally. India received its first such model in the form of the M340i xDrive 50 Jahre M Edition earlier this month. And now, it has another one – the 6 Series 50 Jahre M Edition.

First, price. The celebratory version has an ex-showroom cost of INR 72.90 lakh, INR 3 lakh more than the model on which it is based. Which one? The 630i M Sport. And is the price difference justifiable? Well, the 50 Jahre M Edition is available for a limited period. That alone has some meaty weight to it. The rest comes from the extra embellishments it boasts over the donor car.

The commemorative derivative ropes in chrome slats in the kidney grille, BMW 50 Jahre M emblem, M seat belts, LaserLight tech, Comfort Access system and soft-close function for doors. As for the colour options, the 50 Jahre M Edition is available in all colours, except Piemont Red. If you like the 6 Series Gran Turismo, the extra amount is a fair ask, and you should go for the limited-run version.

Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 255bhp/400Nm. The oomph goes to the wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. BMW says that the 630i can hit 100kmph from nothing in 6.5 seconds.

Like the engine, the rest of the package is also the same. Features include a wireless mobile charger, two 10.25-inch rear-seat entertainment screens, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system and four-zone automatic climate control. The list also has a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a panoramic glass roof and an auto-dimming IRVM.

The 6 Series is on its last leg in India. It’s currently being assembled at the brand’s plant in Chennai. And, for the record, BMW India will launch ten 50 Jahre M Editions this year. Such versions of the M4 and M5 are also in the pipeline.
