• The Cronografo Telemetro Blu Ministeriale is a collaboration between Angelus and four Italian retailers. • The Blu Ministeriale’s blue shade holds special importance in Italy. • The model is based on the brand’s award-winning Chronographe Télémètre. • It is presented in 18K yellow gold (3N), limited to 10 pieces and stainless steel, limited to 20 pieces.

What is the new Angelus Cronografo Telemetro Blu Ministeriale?

The Cronografo Telemetro Blu Ministeriale is a collaboration between Angelus and four Italian retailers: Camparini Gioielli of Reggio Emilia, Montres & Bijoux of Genoa, P. Bastiani of Trieste and Verga 1947 of Milan. Based on the brand’s GPHG award-winning Chronographe Télémètre, the most striking feature of the Cronografo Telemetro Blu Ministeriale is its namesake blue shade.

“Angelus chose Blu Ministeriale as the central theme of a project conceived for Italy with Italy: a select group of retailers, limited distribution, a distinctive visual profile, and an aesthetic defined by restraint, elegance, and a strong sense of ceremony. This limited edition is the embodiment of an identity, a territory, and a narrative: the visible expression of a dialogue between Swiss watchmaking expertise and Italian sensibility.”

What are its dial features?

Image: Stainless steel reference. Header image is the 18K yellow gold (3N) reference. The interplay of colours – gilded 3N Arabic numerals and hour-markers, same / similar colour hands and numerals and markers on the counters and the outer scale, the red accents on the 30-minute counter and outer scale and the “Cronografo Blu Ministerialelettering, all against the Blu Ministeriale dial is beautiful. An abundance of overall details that contrasts superbly.

The dial colour on both the 18K yellow gold (3N) and stainless steel reference is Blu Ministeriale.

“Blu Ministeriale holds a special place in the Italian imagination. Deep, rich, and restrained, this shade of blue recalls official vehicles and, more broadly, a whole world associated with Italy’s public institutions. Neither black, nor grey, nor ostentatious, it embodies a refined discretion that is immediately recognisable.”

The domed dial features a grained central section. Azuré finished counters at 3 and 9 o’clock. Syringe-shaped hour and minute hands are coated with luminescent material. The Arabic numerals and baton-shaped hour-markers are gilded 3N. The outer flange is satin-finished. The telemeter scale is graduated to 20 km.

Is it a monopusher chronograph?

Image: The movement is crafted by Manufacture La-Joux Perret S.A., which together with Arnold & Son and Angelus is essentially one entity. The main plate features a 3N gilded finish and a circular-grained pattern. The bridges feature a 3N gilded finish, Côtes de Genève and chamfered. The wheels are circular-grained and the screws polished.

Yes. It is powered by Calibre A5000, an in-house manual winding movement with a column wheel and horizontal clutch that drives the central hours and minutes, small seconds at 9 o’clock and chronograph functions: central seconds and 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock.

It measures 29.4 mm (diameter) * 4.2 mm (thickness), comprises 23 jewels, beats at a luxurious rate of 3 Hz or 21,600 vph and delivers a power reserve of 42 hours. Winding and time-setting is performed via the crown at 3 o’clock. Chronograph functions – start / stop / reset are performed via the monopusher on the crown.

What are its case and strap features?

Two case versions: 18K yellow gold (3N) and stainless steel, measuring 37 mm (diameter) * 9.25 mm (thickness). Dial side features a box sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both side and the caseback features a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. Water resistant up to 3 bar or approximately 30 metres.

Both references come with a blue alligator flank leather strap fitted with an 18K yellow gold (3N) or stainless steel pin buckle, respectively.

What do we think?

The Cronografo Telemetro Blu Ministeriale is a beautiful watch in both its yellow gold and stainless steel avatar. Yet, its real beauty lies in its old-world idea and colour behind it. In an era where many watch brands have migrated to a boutique only strategy, creating a watch together with retail partners to be sold exclusively by them is refreshing. It is how business was done in the past. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, the Blu Ministeriale dial captures Italian style and culture perfectly.

Image: Not just any blue dial watch. “Some colours transcend fashion and express an attitude, a status and a culture. Blu Ministeriale is one such colour. Understated and confident without being austere, it evokes light leather interiors, gold detailing, official silhouettes and a distinctive sense of formal Italian elegance. It is neither a sporting blue, nor a nautical blue, nor the electric blue of the 1970s, but a shade intended to convey enduring presence and stature.”

Typical of Angelus, production is limited; 10 pieces for the yellow gold reference and 20 pieces for the stainless steel reference. Availability is exclusively via the four Italian retailers, who might reserve these pieces for their topmost local clients. Getting one might not be easy; but if you do, you will become a custodian of one of the most beautiful chronographs in the market today, one that is modern with a vintage soul.

Angelus has been on a roll recently, earlier this month they unveiled the Instrument de Mesures, a triple scale chronograph uniting a telemeter, tachymeter and pulsometer scale powered by the same Calibre A5000 as the Cronografo Telemetro Blu Ministeriale. Click here to read more.
