Vietnam’s largest private carrier, Vietjet, and Airbus have struck a fresh deal concerning the A330 aircraft. According to the paperwork, the airline has placed a firm order for twenty A330-900 aeroplanes. The strengthened widebody fleet will allow it to increase flights on high-capacity routes across the Asia-Pacific and launch long-haul services to Europe.
The latest deal between Vietjet and Airbus doubles the former’s firm orders for the A330neo to 40 aircraft. In addition, the airline has 96 A320neo Family jets on order. Vietjet presently has an all-Airbus fleet with 115 single-aisle A320 Family jets and seven A330-300s.
The Hanoi-headquartered carrier offers international services to Australia, India, and Kazakhstan, with its A330-300s ferrying passengers and cargo. The bigger Airbus A330-900s will allow Vietjet to expand operations, rope in more distant destinations, and, hence, appeal to a broader customer base.
The Airbus A330-900s will have Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, efficient enough for a range of 7,200 nautical miles (13,300 km) nonstop. Enlarged overhead bins, a new-gen lighting system, and access to the latest in-flight entertainment system and connectivity solutions will make the journey all the more comfortable.
