Air India Express (AIX) is expanding. A few days after announcing five new routes, the low-cost airline started operations from a new airport. On December 1, 2024, the carrier flew its inaugural flights to Sri Vijaya Puram, Port Blair, from Bengaluru and Kolkata. Both routes will operate once daily.
The flight from Kolkata leaves for Sri Vijaya Puram and lands there at 05:40 and 07:50, respectively. The return leg starts at 08:35 and concludes at 10:45. From Bengaluru, the Sri Vijaya Puram-bound flight departs at 10:50 and arrives at 13:15. Those travelling in the other direction fly out of the capital of Andaman & Nicobar Islands at 13:50 and lands in Karnataka’s capital at 16:20.
From December 15, 2024, AIX will increase the frequency of the Sri Vijaya Puram-Kolkata route to twice daily. The second flight departs from Kolkata at 09:20 and lands in Sri Vijaya Puram at 11:40. After a forty-minute halt, the return journey begins at 12:20 and concludes at 14:35. Then, on January 1, 2025, the carrier will connect Chennai with Sri Vijaya Puram.
AIX now has a fleet of 90 aircraft, comprising 61 Boeing 737s and 29 Airbus A320s. A new jet is being added to the count every week. From December 1, 2024, the airline also began daily flights from Jammu to Delhi and Srinagar.
