Two airlines, Air India and Air Mauritius, have been in a codeshare agreement for a while but have now agreed to expand the partnership’s scope. On the sidelines of the 81st IATA AGM in New Delhi, the duo decided to ink the expanded and bilateral codeshare agreement, which allows both carriers to place their designated codes on 17 routes between India, Mauritius, Réunion, South Africa, and Madagascar.
Per the newly signed agreement, Air India will place code ‘AI’ on Air Mauritius flights to and from Cape Town and Johannesburg in South Africa and Antananarivo in Madagascar. This will allow passengers to travel to these destinations via Mauritius on a single ticket with their baggage checked through to their final stop. The Indian airline already codeshares on Air Mauritius flights between the latter’s home country and Mumbai, Delhi and Réunion.
On the other hand, Air Mauritius presently places its ‘MK’ code on Air India-operated services between Mumbai and Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Goa, and Delhi and Bengaluru, Chennai. The expanded agreement allows Air Mauritius to place its designator code on Air India flights between Mauritius and Mumbai.
