A.PRESSE at Harvey Nichols: Now a Middle East exclusive

• A.PRESSE at Harvey Nichols Dubai launched on 5 September as a Middle East exclusive. • At the time of publishing, the official Harvey Nichols website has no details of the A.PRESSE range, so the product information below comes from the brand's official store. • The menswear spans jackets, shirts, knitwear, sweatshirts, trousers and denim, including pieces in silk, cashmere blends and leather. Many are washed after sewing, so no two are quite alike.

Japanese label A.PRESSE is now on sale in Dubai. The debut of A.PRESSE at Harvey Nichols on 5 September makes the Mall of the Emirates department store the brand’s exclusive home in the Middle East. For shoppers across the region, that means one clear address.

A.PRESSE builds its range from clothes most men already know, such as denim jackets, chinos and sweatshirts. What sets the label apart is how it makes them, often in richer fabrics and with extra finishing that gives each piece its own character.

What is A.PRESSE?

A.PRESSE is a Japanese menswear label built around an editorial idea. It works with a concept it calls the Clothing Editorial Department and approaches a wardrobe the way an editor approaches a magazine: it decides which pieces deserve a place, refines them and then produces them. The aim is clothing that stays in the wardrobe for years, not a single season.

The brand draws heavily on clothing history. Its range returns again and again to denim, military uniforms, and classic workwear, reinterpreting those well-worn shapes from a Japanese perspective. Beyond its stockists, A.PRESSE runs its own flagship store and a boutique in Kyoto.

What does A.PRESSE sell?

At the time of publication, the official Harvey Nichols website has no details on the A.PRESSE range. Moreover, the launch news doesn’t list individual pieces. So, the clearest guide is the brand’s official store, which lists only ready-to-wear. It groups its clothing into categories such as outerwear, leather, coats, shirts, knitwear, denim, sweatshirts, trousers and T-shirts, and highlights leather, denim and sweatshirts. Expect the A.PRESSE selection at Harvey Nichols to draw on these categories.

Outerwear shows the historical references most clearly. The current range includes a 1st Type denim jacket, US Army M-42 and M-43 field jackets, an M-65 field parka and a US Navy N-2 deck coat in washed wool. Detroit, Harrington, and coach jackets join them, along with a B-15C flight jacket in a silk-and-cotton blend.

Shirts run from spread-collar and loop-collar styles to western denim and cotton moleskin, and one loop-collar design comes in suede. Knitwear covers crew necks, Henleys, cardigans and knitted polos in wool and wool-cotton, while some T-shirts use cashmere blends. Vintage-style sweatshirts, zip hoodies and hooded sweat parkas complete the more casual side of the range.

Trousers draw on the same sources, mixing chinos, French work styles and M-51 field designs with wide-leg cuts in wool, washed silk and cotton-silk twill. There is also a pair in washed cashmere and silk, and the jeans come in several washed cuts, from straight to wide.

What makes A.PRESSE clothing different?

Much of the appeal lies in the fabric. A.PRESSE often pairs a utilitarian shape with a luxurious cloth. Its leather chore jacket, for instance, combines baby calf leather with a silk-cotton taffeta lining. Elsewhere, British Army-style trousers come in silk and hemp, and a tweed jacket blends alpaca with linen.

Many garments also go through washing and other treatments after sewing, so each piece varies slightly in look, texture and even size. The brand treats these differences as part of the design rather than as flaws, and it applies the same thinking to hardware. On its No.2 washed jeans, for example, the iron tack buttons can change colour with age, which the brand presents as part of their vintage character. Some washed and leather pieces call for specialist cleaning, so the care label deserves a close read.

How does A.PRESSE sizing work?

Most tops and outerwear use numbered sizes that follow the usual letters: 1 is S, 2 is M, 3 is L and 4 is XL, and some pieces add a 5 for XXL. On the brand’s size guide, size 1 matches an Italian 44. Jeans use waist and length sizing instead, such as 32/30. Because washing can shift measurements slightly from piece to piece, trying on in-store is the surest route to the right fit.
