Yamaha XSR900 GP 2027 Unveiled With Christian Sarron-Inspired Racing Colours

The 2027 Yamaha XSR900 GP debuts a Legend Blue livery inspired by Christian Sarron’s Grand Prix racing heritage, bringing classic Yamaha motorsport colours to its retro sportbike design.

Yamaha has unveiled the 2027 XSR900 GP with a new Legend Blue colour scheme inspired by former French Grand Prix racer Christian Sarron and his championship-winning Sonauto Yamaha.

What Is New on the 2027 Yamaha XSR900 GP?

The main highlight of the 2027 Yamaha XSR900 GP is the introduction of the Legend Blue colour scheme. The new colour scheme takes inspiration from Yamaha’s fabled Grand Prix racing heritage, giving the motorcycle a visual connection to its historic race-winning machines.

The Legend Blue finish combines several design elements associated with Yamaha’s racing motorcycles. The colour scheme incorporates blue bodywork as its base, while light-blue Speedblock graphics across the tank and side fairings add contrast. Yellow stripes further distinguish the new scheme, and yellow number plates at the front and rear complete the Grand Prix-inspired appearance.

It is to be noted that the Legend Blue colour scheme is a visual tribute carrying historical design cues over to the modern XSR900 GP rather than recreating the original motorcycle. Mechanically, the XSR900 GP stays mechanically identical to the standard XSR900 GP from Yamaha’s heritage lineup.

Who Is Christian Sarron, and Why Is Yamaha Paying Tribute to Him?

Christian Sarron is a former French Grand Prix motorcycle racer who won the 250cc World Championship in 1984. He won the championship on board the Sonauto Yamaha TZ250, which served as the inspiration for the new XSR900 GP colour scheme.

What Engine Powers the 2027 Yamaha XSR900 GP?

The 2027 Yamaha XSR900 GP continues to use an 890cc, liquid-cooled, three-cylinder engine with double overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder.

The engine produces a maximum output of 117  hp at 10,000 rpm and a peak torque of 93 Nm at 7,000 rpm. It is paired with a six-speed transmission and a chain final drive.

What Chassis, Suspension and Brakes Does the Yamaha XSR900 GP Use?

The XSR900 GP uses an aluminium Deltabox-style frame designed to provide a balance between rigidity, weight and handling performance. The motorcycle rides on a 17-inch wheel with 120/70ZR17 front and 180/55ZR17 rear tyres.

The suspension is provided by fully adjustable KYB components at both ends. The front uses telescopic forks, while the rear features a link-type suspension system connected to the swingarm.

For braking, the XSR900 GP uses dual 298mm hydraulic disc brakes at the front and a single 245mm hydraulic disc at the rear, supported by dual-channel ABS.

What Electronic Features Are Available on the Yamaha XSR900 GP?

Despite its heritage styling and retro bodywork, the XSR900 GP includes a modern electronics package. It includes a six-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU), Yamaha Ride Control settings, and several electronic rider aids.

The motorcycle offers a 5.0-inch full-colour TFT instrument display, multiple riding modes, cruise control and a third-generation quickshifter.

How Is the Yamaha XSR900 GP Different From the Standard XSR900?

The Yamaha XSR900 GP and standard XSR900 share the same basic 890cc CP3 platform, but they differ in styling, ergonomics and chassis details.

The standard XSR900 follows a more traditional neo-retro roadster design, while the XSR900 GP adopts a more pronounced racing influence through its half fairing, clip-on handlebars and rear seat cowl.

When Will the 2027 Yamaha XSR900 GP Go on Sale, and What Will It Cost?

Yamaha has announced the 2027 XSR900 GP for overseas markets, but pricing and delivery schedules need to be confirmed through individual regional subsidiaries and dealers.
