White Motorcycle Concepts Mono RR Demonstrates Aerodynamic Technology for More Efficient Motorcycles

White Motorcycle Concepts Mono RR showcases a patented aerodynamic duct, a supercharged 449cc engine and a lightweight design aimed at improving motorcycle performance and efficiency.

White Motorcycle Concepts (WMC) has unveiled its latest motorcycle technology demonstrator – the Mono RR. The Mono RR showcases White Motorcycle Concepts’ patented aerodynamic duct with a supercharged 449cc engine, which aims to improve the performance and efficiency of the motorcycle.

The Mono RR is based on the Krämer EVO2 690R, a track-focused motorcycle developed by German racing specialist Krämer. According to White Motorcycle Concepts, the Mono RR project aims to explore how a smaller, lighter powertrain and advanced aerodynamics could help future motorcycles reduce fuel consumption and meet stricter emission norms without compromising performance or conventional riding ergonomics.

How does the Mono RR’s supercharged 449cc engine work?

The Mono RR uses a 449cc single-cylinder engine sourced from the Yamaha YZ450F. White Motorcycle Concepts (WMC) chose this specific engine because of its reverse-cylinder-head design, which places the intake at the front and the exhaust at the rear, separating cooler intake air from hotter exhaust gases.

This layout allows the intake trumpet to pass through the wider front section of the aerodynamic duct while preserving space for airflow. To further improve performance, WMC has fitted a Rotrex C15-20 supercharger driven by a belt connected to the crankshaft.

The engine has also received a new connecting rod and piston to tolerate the additional stresses associated with the extra power generated by the supercharger. Other modifications include a bespoke engine mount, additional coolant sensors, knock control and a 3D-printed titanium exhaust header.

WMC’s initial objective with the engine is to match or exceed the original Krämer’s power output, while Phase 2 targets 100hp. The compact engine is approximately 20kg lighter than the previous powertrain.

Does the Mono RR use a new chassis and suspension?

The White Motorcycle Concepts has retained much of the Krämer EVO2 690R’s existing hardware. The Mono RR uses a 25CrMo4 steel trellis frame with subtle modifications to accommodate the new engine and its mounting system.

Suspension hardware comprises WP Apex Pro front forks and a matching WP rear shock absorber. The braking system features twin 290mm front discs with Brembo Stylema four-piston callipers and a 220mm rear disc with a Formula four-piston calliper. Forged-alloy Dymag wheels are also part of the specification.

What are the aerodynamic and fuel-efficiency gains?

The bodywork uses glass-reinforced plastic with carbon and Kevlar reinforcement, alongside carbon-fibre components for selected body panels and the aerodynamic duct.

The revised aerodynamic bodywork according to WMC reduces drag by 16.4% and aerodynamic lift by 77% compared with the conventional design. The company also reports a 16% improvement in thermal management and states that the motorcycle could be 7% more fuel-efficient than the Krämer EVO2 690R on which the Mono RR is based.

Will the White Motorcycle Concepts Mono RR enter production?

No, not directly. The Mono RR is a technology demonstrator rather than a production motorcycle. White Motorcycle Concepts itself is an engineering- and innovation-led company that aims to provide intellectual property and research and development support to motorcycle manufacturers and OEMs.
