What are the dial and case features?

Image: The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph, with its three subdials arranged in a vertical layout, is an iconic IWC design. The subdials feature a snailed pattern. The black day of the week and date wheels enhance the balance of the dial. The hands are gold-plated. The triangle with two dots at 12 o’clock is a pilot’s watch feature. The gold-coloured markings of the tachymetre scale on the black ceramic bezel contrast well with the dial. The strap features the brand’s EasX-CHANGE® system. Another indication for the Chinese New Year is in the date aperture: “On the 8th day of each month, the Chinese character for “goat” appears in the aperture instead of the eight numeral.”

Dial: Gold-coloured dial with black subdials. Hour and minute hands, counter hands, Arabic numerals, and hour-markers are coated with Super-LumiNova.

“The colours red and gold are omnipresent during Chinese New Year celebrations. While the previous special editions have been distinguished by their rich burgundy dials, this new one is the first to feature a gold-coloured dial. In Chinese culture, gold is associated with fortune, prosperity and prestige. Every glance at the dial therefore serves as a reminder of the positive wishes exchanged at the beginning of the new year.”

Case and Strap: Made from titanium, measuring 41 mm (diameter) * 14.8 mm (thickness). Dial side features a convex sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides. Caseback features a synthetic sapphire crystal. Water resistant up to 10 bar or approximately 100 metres. The watch comes with a black calfskin leather strap fitted with a pin buckle made from titanium.

What are the movement features?

Image: The automatic winding rotor is gold-plated. “For thousands of years, three goats have served as a symbol of bliss in China. This tradition can be traced back to the “Book of Changes” (“I Ching”), in which “yang” – pronounced the same way as the word for goat – represents the counterpart to “yin” and symbolizes positive energy and the beginning of a new cycle. The three-goat motif has remained a popular theme throughout Chinese history, appearing on cultural artifacts as well as on everyday objects dating back to the Han dynasty.”

It is powered by IWC-manufactured calibre 69385, an automatic chronograph movement that drives the central hours and minutes, small seconds with a stop seconds function (6 o’clock), day of the week and date (apertures at 3 o’clock), chronograph functions: central seconds, 30-minute counter (12 o’clock), and 12-hour counter (9 o’clock), and day and date (apertures at 3 o’clock). It comprises of 242 parts and 33 jewels, beats at a modern frequency of 4 Hz or 28,800 vph and delivers a power reserve of 46 hours.
