What is the new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Sport?

It is an evolution of TAG Heuer’s motorsport-inspired icon. Originally introduced in 2020, the new Carrera Chronograph Sport takes the “foundations” of this watch “into a new territory,” with every detail, proportions and surfaces reimagined yet remaining true to the TAG Heuer Carrera DNA. It is presented in five references, “each expressing a distinct facet” of this model. They made their debut at the recent inaugural Spanish Grand Prix held in Madrid during 11^th-13^th September.

What is the dial, case, bracelet, and strap features?

The case of each reference is made from stainless steel, fine brushed and polished, measuring 42 mm (diameter) * 14.2 mm (thickness). Lug width is 22 mm. Dial side features a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment. Caseback features a sapphire crystal. Water resistant up to 100 metres.

Four references come with a stainless steel H-shaped bracelet fitted with a stainless steel folding clasp, both fine brushed and polished, featuring an easy adjustment system. One reference comes with a brown perforated calfskin leather strap fitted with a stainless steel pin buckle, fine brushed and polished, with a triple folding clasp.

What are the movement features?

The five references are powered by TH20-00, an in-house chronograph movement that features a column wheel and a vertical clutch and a bi-directional automatic winding rotor for “faster rotor response.” It drives the central hours and minutes, small seconds (at 6 o’clock), chronograph functions: central 1/4^th second, 30-minute counter (at 3 o’clock), 12-hour counter (at 9 o’clock) and date at 6 o’clock. It features 33 jewels, beats at a modern frequency of 4 Hz or 28,800 vph and delivers a power reserve of 80 hours. Movement finishing includes bridges adorned with a Côtes de Genève pattern, a rhodium-plated column wheel and colimaçonné detailing on the winding rotor.

What do we think?

Few watch brands are as connected to motorsport as TAG Heuer. The brand’s ability to create watches that evoke motor racing and the wearer’s own pulse racing are second to none. The Monaco Chronograph, Monaco Evergraph and Monaco Speed 12, all of which we covered earlier, are examples of the brand’s ability and expertise in crafting these watches utilising modern innovative movements. The five references of the new Carrera Chronograph Sport enhances the brand’s motorsport-inspired repertoire and are a welcome addition to the catalogue. No doubt there will be other references with dial, bracelet, and strap variations in due course. Each of the five references is a compelling watch for those seeking a high-quality chronograph at an accessible price.
