For more than eight decades, Jeep has built its reputation on going where roads end. Now, the brand is looking back at its origins with the unveiling of the new Jeep Wrangler Sarge, a limited-edition model that pays tribute to the legendary 1941 Willys MB that started it all.
Introduced as the June release in Jeep’s Twelve 4 Twelve programme, the Wrangler Sarge combines vintage military-inspired styling of the OG Willys with the modern technology, comfort, and trail-conquering ability that today’s Wrangler buyers expect.
Inspired by the heritage vehicles that laid the foundation for the Jeep brand in 1941, the Sarge is designed to celebrate Jeep’s military roots while remaining every bit as capable as the Wrangler enthusiasts know and love.
What Is The Jeep Wrangler Sarge?
The Jeep Wrangler Sarge is a special-edition Wrangler designed to celebrate Jeep’s military heritage and the original Willys MB that entered service in 1941.
Unlike a performance-focused special edition, the Sarge is primarily a heritage and appearance package. It takes the already capable Wrangler Willys and Rubicon trims and adds a collection of unique styling details inspired by the military vehicles that helped establish the Jeep legend during World War II.
Available in both two-door and four-door configurations, buyers can choose the Sarge package on either Willys or Rubicon models. The Wrangler Sarge is part of Jeep’s Twelve 4 Twelve programme, an initiative that introduces 12 limited-edition Wrangler variants over 12 months, each with its own distinct theme and personality.
Heritage-Inspired Design With Authentic Military Character
The biggest talking point of the Wrangler Sarge is its unmistakable military-inspired design. The model draws heavily from the original Willys MB, with several exterior details designed to create a direct visual link to Jeep’s earliest vehicles.
Key exterior highlights include:
- Heritage-inspired ’41 Green accents
- Heritage Green or Bright White roof options
- Matching grille surround treatment
- Exclusive 1941 hood decals
- Military-style graphics
- Heritage Green A14 alloy wheels
- Bronze tow hooks
- Steel rock rails
- Body-colour fender flares
Customers choosing the exclusive ’41 exterior paint receive a Bright White roof and grille surround paired with matching heritage wheels. Meanwhile, buyers opting for Granite Crystal, Bright White, or Black paint get a Heritage Green roof and grille surround. The result feels authentic rather than theatrical.
What’s The Interior Like On The Special Edition Wrangler Sarge?
The military inspiration doesn’t stop once you climb inside. Jeep has given the Wrangler Sarge a unique cabin featuring a combination of Cattle Tan and Drab Green finishes, creating one of the most distinctive Wrangler interiors ever.
Additional details include:
- Soul cloth seat trim
- Mayan Gold contrast stitching
- Unique star medallion gear shifter
- 1941 commemorative plaque near the cupholders
- Seven-slot Jeep grille detailing on HVAC vents
- Exclusive swing-gate plaque
It’s a tasteful approach to nostalgia. Rather than plastering military graphics everywhere, Jeep has focused on subtle details.
Does The Wrangler Sarge Get Any Mechanical Upgrades?
The Wrangler Sarge remains mechanically identical to the Willys and Rubicon models on which it is based. That means buyers still get the Wrangler’s proven off-road hardware, Trail Rated capability, and the same powertrain options available in their chosen trim level. But, it doesn’t get any mechanical upgrades.
While Jeep hasn’t altered the suspension, powertrain, or drivetrain specifically for the Sarge, that’s hardly a criticism. The current Wrangler is already one of the most capable production off-roaders on the planet.
Depending on specification, Wrangler buyers can expect features such as:
- Command-Trac or Rock-Trac 4×4 systems
- Front and rear locking differentials (Rubicon)
- Electronic sway bar disconnect (Rubicon)
- Heavy-duty Dana axles
- Trail Rated certification
- Multiple off-road drive modes
The Sarge may look ready for deployment, but fortunately its toughest mission today is more likely to involve sand dunes and rock gardens.

Modern Wrangler Technology Remains Intact
Despite its vintage inspiration, the Wrangler Sarge remains thoroughly modern underneath the retro-themed styling.
Depending on specification, the latest Wrangler offers:
- 12.3-inch Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system
- Wireless Apple CarPlay
- Wireless Android Auto
- Off-Road Pages performance monitoring
- Multiple camera views
- Advanced driver assistance systems
- Over-the-air software updates
This blend of old-school design and modern technology is arguably what makes the Sarge so appealing. It celebrates Jeep’s past without forcing owners to actually live in it.
A Special Edition Designed For Collectors And Enthusiasts
The Wrangler has never been short of special editions, but the Sarge feels more meaningful than most. Rather than relying on flashy graphics or oversized badges, Jeep has tied this model directly to the vehicle that created the brand’s identity more than 85 years ago.
The original Willys MB is one of the most recognisable vehicles ever built and laid the foundation for the civilian Jeep models that followed.
As part of the Twelve 4 Twelve programme, the Sarge is also one of the more distinctive editions unveiled so far. The military-inspired theme feels authentic to Jeep’s history rather than simply being a cosmetic exercise, which should make it particularly appealing to long-time enthusiasts and collectors.
Jeep Gladiator Sarge Also Joins The Line-Up
The Wrangler isn’t reporting for duty alone. Jeep has also revealed a Gladiator Sarge, extending the military-inspired theme to the brand’s pickup truck.
Like its SUV counterpart, the Gladiator Sarge draws inspiration from the legendary 1941 Willys MB. It features the same heritage-focused design package, including military-style star graphics, 1941 hood decals, exclusive ’41 Green wheels, bronze tow hooks, steel rock rails, and the distinctive combination of Cattle Tan and Drab Green interior finishes.
For now, however, Jeep Middle East has only announced the Wrangler Sarge for the GCC market. There has been no official confirmation regarding the Gladiator Sarge’s regional launch plans.
That said, the Gladiator has built a dedicated following among off-road enthusiasts across the Middle East. If enough buyers start raising their hands, Jeep may eventually decide that the pickup deserves a deployment here as well.
