Dubai marked a significant automotive event with the launch of the BYD Shark 6 plug-in hybrid pickup truck during the UAE’s first Super Hybrid Tech Day. The unveiling of the new model underscores BYD’s position as a global leader in new energy vehicles and its commitment to driving innovative and sustainable mobility in the region, in partnership with Al-Futtaim Electric Mobility, the exclusive distributor of BYD in the UAE.
The Shark 6 is the first plug-in hybrid pickup truck to be launched in the region, offering a combination of power, high performance, and environmental efficiency. Thanks to the advanced DMO Super Hybrid platform, the truck delivers 429 hp and 650 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5.7 seconds, and has a towing capacity of up to 2.5 tons. Its range reaches 520 km with driving modes designed for mud, sand, and snow, making it a suitable choice for both everyday life and off-road adventures.
The event was not limited to unveiling the new truck; it was also an opportunity to showcase BYD’s latest technologies globally. Most notable among these are the innovative Blade Battery, which utilises Cell-to-Chassis technology to enhance safety and efficiency, the fourth-generation DM-i technology, which integrates the fuel engine and electric propulsion system for optimal energy management, and the V2L system, which converts the vehicle into a mobile power station. Furthermore, it features Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and utilises artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies to improve performance continually.
The design is inspired by the power and majesty of sharks, with bold headlights and taillights that give the car a commanding presence on the road. Inside, the cabin boasts luxurious touches, including a 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital LCD screen, and an advanced Dirac audio system with eight speakers, as well as cooled and ventilated front seats for maximum comfort.
On the safety front, the Shark 6 received a five-star rating from the Latin NCAP programme, confirming BYD’s commitment to global safety standards. Its innovative technologies also contribute to reducing the carbon footprint and supporting the national sustainability goals and the UAE Vision 2030, leading to the Climate Neutrality Strategy 2050.
This step is part of Al-Futtaim’s efforts to promote sustainable mobility in the country. Over the past two years, it has developed an integrated system that encompasses the CHARGE2MOOV charging network, as well as sales, financing, maintenance, and innovative mobility solutions.
