2025 Mini John Cooper Works Duo Promise More Fun

The new cars have a lot more torque from the turbocharged inline-four.

Today’s Mini models are undoubtedly considered the complete cars available in the market, as they combine driving pleasure with a sophisticated personality.

But the new thing for the BMW-owned brand today is its new hatchback and Convertible with an authentic JCW flavour. Both cars retain the 2.0-litre turbo gasoline engine, but some changes exist.

The Bavarian engine generates a torque of up to 380 Nm, a significant increase of 60 Nm over the previous models. However, there is no additional horsepower, meaning the four-cylinder engine still sends 228 hp to the front axle.

The Hatchback variant needs 6.1 seconds to reach a speed of 100kmph from a standstill, compared to 6.4 seconds for the convertible.

Mini offers the car a choice of 11 body colours that can be combined with a red or black finish for the roof and side mirror caps. Opt for the convertible, and you get an exclusive Copper Grey paint job and a black and white or grey Jack pattern for the fabric roof. You can lower the roof in 18 seconds at up to 30kmph.

The interior design has also been largely carried over from the Cooper 3-Door and Convertible in the JCW trim. Mini gives both cars a red and black look, with body-hugging front seats and a huge steering wheel. A 9.4-inch circular OLED display for the infotainment system is standard, as is a Harman Kardon sound system. The Oxford-based brand has ditched the driver display with its latest models for simplicity.

The two-door JCW will start at $39,000 (AED 144,000) versus $44,000 (AED 164,000) for the convertible. If Mini sticks to its promise to go purely electric by the end of the decade, this would effectively mean these two cars are the last JCW models with a combustion engine. They’re available alongside the more powerful Countryman JCW, which now has a powerful quad exhaust system.
