CE 04: BMW’s First Electric Two wheeler for the Indian Market

India’s First ever premium electric scooter

Bmw Motorrad India launched their first electric offering for the Indian market – BMW CE -04. an electric scooter priced at 14.9 Lac rupees and calling it a premium scooter, is warranted considering the price they’re asking for ex-showroom with additional add-ons, it is well over 15.0 lacs on the road.

Performance and Range

This premium scooter from the German marque is not just heavy on the pocket, but, it’s packing quite a punch on the performance side of things – The innovative liquid-cooled magnetic electric motor produces 42 hp quite enough to propel this 50 km/h in just 2.6 seconds and the top speed of 120 kp/h – which should be more than enough for highway runs if you ever decide to take it on one.

You are welcome to take it on the highways – barring that your trip is limited to 130 kms before you find a charging station – the 8.5 kW battery that BMW offers with the scooter is enough to provide juice for 130 km – depending on the conditions.

If you manage to find a charging station then you have to find a way to pass four hours or so till the battery tops up and your premium German scooter is ready for your next destination charging times can be brought down to one and a half hours if your willing to shed extra cash to opt for a fast charger – Okay, in all seriousness BMW does not endorse this product as a highway cruiser or a high-performance machine to satisfy your wanderlust or thrill for speed urges, rather it’s a dependable city runabout utility vehicle that not only is light on the environment but also capable of turning your city runs fun and happening and that’s how BMW Motorrad is marketing it ‘a Premium Urban electric Scooter’.

Design and Features

The BMW CE 04 Incorporates a very radical and Futuristic design that undoubtedly gives off sci-fi vibes in its purest sense and will ensure to attract all the eyes on the road – but it’s not all style and no substance, a bench-like seat that seems to offer good comfort and utility for the rider and pillion.

The BMW CE 04 is offered with two colour options to choose from a base variant that is available in Light White and the optional Avantgarde style in Imperial blue metallic colour.

Directionally stable suspension with a one-piece tubular steel main frame. At the front, the double disc brake and single disc brake at the rear. Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) the BMW CE 04 also comes with Automatic Stability Control (ASC). The new BMW CE 04 features three riding modes ECO, Rain and Road.

The BMW CE 04 comes with a 10.25–inch TFT multifunctional instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity.

Buyers can opt for an optional ‘Comfort Package that includes Heated Grips and Backrest Comfort Seat. The optional ‘Dynamic Package’ offers Riding Modes Pro, ABS Pro, Adaptive Headlights, etc.

The scooter comes as a completely built unit (CBU) and is expected to hit the showroom floor by September 2024 in a few selected cities with booking already begun.

It will be quite interesting to see how the BMW CE 04 fairs in a tough and extremely price-sensitive market such as India where other alternatives offer similar performance and battery range at just 13% of the BMW’s price.

Surely other dynamics come into play such as Ride comfort and technological sophistication not to mention the brand prestige that the German manufacturer commands.
