This Is The Ferrari 296 Challenge

It’s a non-hybrid derivative of the 296 GTB.

What you see here is what Ferrari calls the 296 Challenge. It’s only a preview, as the Italians will present the low-slung racer at the Mugello Circuit between October 24-30, 2023. The 296 Challenge becomes the brand’s ninth model for the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli.

Ferrari’s latest creation will debut in the Europe and North America series in the 2024 season. Compared to its predecessor, the 488 Challenge Evo, the 296 Challenge promises even faster performance. In fact, its specifications are pretty close to what the Ferrari 296 GT3, which made its debut this season, possesses.

Like the 296 GT3, the 296 Challenge packs a 2,992cc 120-degree V6 backed by two turbochargers. The hybrid system has been ditched. The peak output is 700cv/740Nm, which equates to 234cv per litre of cubic capacity. That creates a new segment benchmark. And as you’d expect, the story doesn’t end there. The aero package on the 296 Challenge delivers more downforce than any other racer in the championship’s history. According to Ferrari, the 296 Challenge generates over 870kg of downforce at 250kmph with the spoiler in full attack position.

Other aspects that help improve the overall performance include the new and specially developed 19-inch Pirelli tyres, CCM-R Plus brake discs and the ABS Evo Track – a tweaked version of the system that debuted on the 296 GTB.
