Mercedes Benz unveils the facelifted GLC Coupe
The new GLC Coupe gets a revised cabin layout and more features as standard
September 2022 saw Mercedes update its GLC midsize SUV model with electrified engines, a tweaked design, and a larger number of standard features. However, the German carmaker missed out on extending these facelifted upgrades to its sloping-roofline coupe sibling, which the brand has addressed by launching the facelifted 2024 GLC Coupe.
The new Mercedes Benz GLC Coupe now benefits from redesigned headlights and taillights angled downwards. The most significant visual difference has been exhibited at the rear, featuring a completely revised design language that aligns more with Mercedes’ EQS range of electrified vehicles. It even receives an integrated ducktail spoiler. This, added to the updated design, has allowed the GLC Coupe to boast 0.27Cd in aerodynamic efficiency, an improvement over its predecessor’s 0.30 Cd.
While the basic coupe silhouette has been retained, the new car looks sleeker and refined, largely thanks to the updated light setup. Even in size, the GLC Coupe has grown compared to its predecessor. The new GLC Coupe, at 4,763 mm in length, stands 31 mm longer than the car it replaces.
Mercedes Benz will be offering the new GLC Coupe with the AMG Line as standard (in the US market), entailing it boasts a Panamericana grille, sporty bumpers, and 19-inch alloy wheels.
Customers would be pleased to find a revised cabin set up in the new GLC Coupe. It aligns with the cabin designs seen in the latest Mercedes cars featuring a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.9-inch touchscreen on the inclined center console embedded with the latest MBUX infotainment software. The minimalist centre console also follows suit in the new GLC Coupe. Courtesy of the AMG Line package, a 710-watt 15-speaker Burmester sound system, heated seats, and wireless phone charging will be offered as standard too. While the sloping roofline does eat up some headspace for the rear passengers, the new GLC makes up for it by embedding a larger panoramic sunroof than its SUV cousin.
The engine specifications are similar to the ones seen on its SUV sibling. A turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine paired with a 48-volt hybrid system is available, producing 255hp and 400Nm torques. This engine gets mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. The biggest differentiating factor in terms of powertrain between both GLC siblings is the availability of all-wheel-drive: the GLC Coupe can only be had with it, whereas the GLC SUV can be specced with a rear-wheel-drive system.
