Alfa Romeo confirms the arrival of a large electric model

The vehicle will arrive in 2027 as a sedan or SUV

Since its merger with the Stellantis group, Alfa Romeo is thinking big. The Italian manufacturer is now seeking to reach the level of the world’s premium brand references such as Mercedes, BMW and Audi. To do this, the biscione must considerably extend its lineup, which to date only includes three models. The first product of this offensive will be a large 100% electric car, the first for Alfa Romeo.

With this model, the manufacturer will primarily target the United States where the E segment is extremely competitive. This is not at all a surprise as Jean-Philippe Imparato, the brand’s CEO, has repeatedly stated that his wish was to enter the E-segment (Porsche Taycan, Audi e-tron GT, Tesla Model S…). Little information is yet known about this future model.

We don’t know its name and we don’t even know if it will be a sedan or an SUV. All we can safely say is that the vehicle will be electric. However, Imparato has a preference for the sedan body, which is more efficient and therefore more suitable for electric propulsion. However, building a sedan is a big risk, as this category is being abandoned by buyers in favour of SUVs, even at the top end of the market.

In both cases, the vehicle could certainly be based on Stellantis’ new STLA platform for next-generation electric vehicles. This will offer up to 700 km of range in the mid-range Medium version and will be available in both rear-wheel and four-wheel drive configurations. More information will be available in 2024.
