Ex-Aston Martin designer Ian Callum is now making fancy chairs, because why not?

Once you've already designed some of the prettiest British cars, what else is there to do but design fancy living room chairs?

Ian Callum, best known for designing the Aston Martin DB9, Jaguar XK and F-Type, has decided to launch his own line of lounge chairs, because why not?

After being in charge of the teams that designed the above cars, what better person to lead the production of a set of chairs known as the ‘CALLUM’.

Limited to 50 pieces, the CALLUM Lounge Chair will be a very sophisticated piece of design, comprising of a carbon fibre structure with a moulded plywood shell encased in smoked eucalyptus veneer. Finished in the finest bespoke leather trim, it has been crafted to create a statement piece of furniture for the home or office.

“The CALLUM Lounge Chair has been inspired by an undisputable design icon, the 1956 Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman,” said Ian Callum CBE.

“Our creation takes cues from this but has a fresh, elegant and efficient ‘lightness’, both physically and visually, thanks to an exposed carbon fibre ‘spine’. We have paired this with a sophisticated wood finish and bespoke luxury leather trim for an end result that is chic and refined.”

There will be a range of colours to choose from, with bespoke leather options for those who can fork out the extra cash. Speaking of which, each chair will retail for £8,500 (USD$10,422) plus local taxes – not making them the cheapest loungers in the world, but far more affordable than some of the other things Ian has designed.
