Porsche India Launches The Cayenne Turbo GT

It can hit 100kmph from nothing in 3.3 seconds and clock 300kmph flat out.

If you’re the sort of person who’d like to walk into a Porsche showroom and ask, “I’d like to buy the quickest Cayenne available,” this is what you’ll be offered. It’s called the Cayenne Turbo GT, a derivative that holds a lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Do you want to know more about the record? Well, in June last year, the Cayenne Turbo GT lapped the 20.832km stretch in 7 minutes and 38.925 seconds. That helped it claim the title of being the fastest of its kind.

So, how much does it cost in India? It’s just over INR 2.57 crore, about INR 59 lakh more than the Cayenne Turbo Coupe. Powering the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT is a 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged V8. That pumps out 632bhp and a peak torque of 850Nm. Those figures, coupled with a slicker 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive, help achieve a 0-100kmph sprint time of 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 300kmph. Fun fact: even though the Cayenne Turbo GT isn’t as powerful as the Turbo S E-Hybrid versions, it is faster.

The Cayenne GT isn’t just about power. It rides lower than the donor variant (Cayenne Turbo Coupe), has a stiffer suspension setup and revised steering characteristics (front and rear). Porsche has even tweaked the software of the chassis control system to provide more performance-oriented feedback. The Cayenne GT also has 1-inch wider front wheels (22-inch) with an increased negative camber, while the standard-fit Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake system does its thing for reducing speed. Lastly, the heat-resistant and lightweight sports exhaust system is made of titanium, and there’s no centre silencer to save weight.

Porsche has used a mix of carbon fibre and Alcantara on the Cayenne Turbo GT. You’d agree that both those materials shout sportiness more than anything else. The carbon list includes the GT-specific front apron and spoiler lip, enlarged side cooling air intakes, the roof, black wheel arch extensions, roof spoiler and the rear diffuser. Bucketed under the Alcantara category are sections on the sports seats, the dashboard lining and the steering cover.

So, there you have it. The Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT rounds off the model range in India. Its list of rivals includes the Lamborghini Urus and the Aston Martin DBX.
