Kawasaki has introduced a set of refreshed hardware and tech on its middleweight supersport, the Ninja 650, for the 2027 model year. The new updates are the most significant since the current generation of the Ninja 650 debuted. According to Kawasaki, the new updates target improving the most discussed weak points of the motorcycle – front suspension and braking.
What are the headline changes for the 2027 Ninja 650?
The 2027 Kawasaki Ninja 650 receives its most significant update in years, centred on three key areas: front suspension, braking hardware and electronics.
For 2027, the Ninja 650 gets a 37 mm Showa SFF-BP (Separate Function Fork – Big Piston) inverted unit replacing the previous 41 mm conventional telescopic fork. The new unit should deliver sharper front-end feel, better dive control under braking and more predictable behaviour when leaning into corners.
As for braking, at the front, twin 300 mm discs are carried over but now work with radial‑mount four‑piston callipers instead of the older axial‑mount two‑piston units, delivering sharper bite, more linear feel and better consistency under hard braking.

Kawasaki has also updated the instrument cluster for the 2027 model year; it continues to use a 4.3-inch colour TFT display but with a redesigned layout for clearer information at a glance, while smartphone connectivity via Kawasaki’s RIDEOLOGY app is expanded to include navigation and voice-command functions.
Kawasaki is also offering the Kawasaki Quick Shifter (KQS) as an optional accessory, enabling clutchless upshifts under acceleration.
Has the chassis or frame been redesigned for 2027?
No, apart from the new suspension unit, the Ninja 650 retains a similar frame architecture for 2027. It continues to use Kawasaki’s high-tensile steel trellis frame, a design renowned for inspiring sharp yet confident handling with enough compliance to tackle day-to-day road use.
Has the engine been tweaked for 2027?
The engine remains unchanged for the 2027 model year; the 2027 Kawasaki Ninja 650 is powered by a 649 cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin with a DOHC engine. The engine makes 67 hp at 8,000 rpm and 64 Nm of torque at 6,700 rpm, paired to a six-speed gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch.

What’s new in the electronics?
The 2027 Ninja 650 gets a redesigned 4.3-inch TFT with improved layout and expanded RIDEOLOGY app features, along with KTRC traction control and dual-channel ABS.
How does this affect the Ninja 650’s position against rivals?
The Kawasaki Ninja 650 was a very competent package, but the 2027 updates significantly strengthen the Ninja 650’s position against key rivals in the global middleweight sport segment. The Ninja 650 goes up against the likes of Yamaha YZF-R7, Honda CBR650R, and CFMoto 675SR.

What about pricing and availability?
The 2027 Ninja 650 is priced from €8,045 in Europe, with the model being available to buyers from December 2026.
