Indian automaker Mahindra appears to be on the offensive with its plan of entering newer international markets while strengthening its presence in existing ones with a range of world-class products, beginning with the newly launched Global Pik Up Concept. It gets built on the new-gen Ladder Frame platform with a satin-finish titanium-gold paint and promises to be one of the most capable pickups upon reaching production. Mahindra's intelligent 4Xplore four-wheel-drive system will be equipped on it, and the automaker aims to acquire a 5-Star safety rating using advanced safety technologies. Inside, the fitment of an infotainment system and immersive audio system will combine to allow the Mahindra Global Pik Up to appeal to the lifestyle pickup market. Upon final production, Mahindra will initially launch the Pik Up in existing markets, including South Africa, ANZ, and Africa MENA and then expand to ASEAN markets in a phased manner.
A day after the Indian Independence Day saw the “Vision Thar.e” electric off-roader concept make its world premiere. Mahindra Electric Automobiles Limited (MEAL), a subsidiary of Mahindra & Mahindra, unveiled this modern-day reinterpretation of its legendary Thar off-roader at its signature Futurescape event in Cape Town, South Africa. This new eSUV has been built on the INGLO-born electric platform, comes equipped with a high-performance AWD electric powertrain, and features geometric surfaces on the exterior comprising near-vertical windows to maximise space and create a commanding presence. The cabin fabrics are made of 50% recycled PET with a commitment to utilise uncoated recyclable plastics. Pratap Bose, Chief Design Officer, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., said, “We have maintained the adventurous spirit and off-roading capability that is quintessentially Thar, but we have crafted a unique identity in the world of electric SUVs.”

German luxury fashion house MCM’s latest Autumn/Winter 2023 collection sees the brand conceptualise classic American aesthetics while voyaging to the vintage. The new line, called the Bandana Monogram, combines MCM’s Visetos diamonds with traditional paisley patterns and transforms the brand’s house codes into dynamic motifs inscribed across backpacks, handbags and x-body bags. The hoodies, tees, jerseys and knitwear are developed from organic featherweight cotton combined with nylon materials and feature youthful and vibrant designs. The new MCM Bandana Monogram line boasts big, bold graphic prints and oversized patterns tailored for relaxed silhouettes. Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) confirms that an affiliate has inked an agreement to acquire the rights, interests, and obligations to 64 Boeing 737 Max aircraft from a subsidiary of China Aircraft Leasing Group Holdings Limited (CALC). The count includes units of 737-8, 737-9 and 737-10 derivatives. The delivery of the aeroplanes will be completed by 2026.
With this acquisition of aeroplanes, the percentage of new-gen aircraft in DAE’s fleet will increase from 50 to 66 per cent. Also, DAE’s owned, managed, committed, and mandated-to-manage aircraft fleet will bump to 550, valued at nearly USD 20 billion. The UAE-based firm says the transaction with CALC will likely be completed in the third quarter of this year.
GE Aerospace confirms that its GEnx engines have surpassed the 50 million flight hours mark in less than 12 years – the fastest-ever rate for a commercial widebody engine. The engine family is also the fastest-selling in GE history, with nearly 3,000 units in service and on backlog, including spares.
The GEnx-1B, which propels the Boeing 787 Dreamliner family, has accumulated close to 32 million flight hours since entering service in 2012. On the other hand, the GEnx-2B has amassed 18 million hours since it began service in 2011 on the Boeing 747-8. Combined, the engine family serves over 70 operators worldwide with a monthly average of 450,000 flight hours. Over the years, the GEnx engines have played their part in some of the longest flights, including a record-breaking trip in 2020 between Papeete in French Polynesia and Paris. That flight covered 9,765 miles, which converts into 15,715km or 8,485 nautical miles.
