2023 Was A Landmark Year For Rolls-Royce

Despite shelving two of the bestsellers, the British marque posted best-ever sales.

6,032. That’s how many vehicles Rolls-Royce retailed in 2023. While that may seem like a lazy weekly figure for a mainstream carmaker, the British marque caters to a world where absolute luxury is just the start. Even so, never has Rolls-Royce sold more motor cars in a year than it did in the last. And this is despite the shelving of two of its most popular models – the Wraith and the Dawn. Like in 2022, the Cullinan was the most sought-after vehicle, but the Ghost and the Phantom played their parts in bumping the global sales figure past the 6K mark. Also, the company built more Bespoke derivatives in 2023 than ever before.

For the brand, the USA was the single largest market in 2023. Greater China, however, occupied the second spot. In Europe, the UK remains the brand’s largest single market. In the Middle East and Africa region, Rolls-Royce posted a 35 per cent growth.

2023 also marked 20 years of production at Goodwood for Rolls-Royce. So, to gauge its impact on the UK economy over the two decades, the brand conducted a study. Since 2003, Rolls-Royce contributed over 4 billion GBP to its home country. Presently, that figure is more than 500 million GBP annually. Rolls-Royce also created 180 new jobs at its Global Centre of Luxury Manufacturing Excellence in 2023, while 130 personnel joined the brand’s Future Talent programme in Apprenticeship, Internship or Graduate Placement positions.

Another area where Rolls-Royce bolstered its position was in its global Private Office network. In 2023, it inaugurated a Private Office in Shanghai, China. The establishment, which acts like a gateway for the uber-wealthy to personalise their Rolls-Royce while offering after-sales services, is the second one outside the UK. The first Private Office opened in Dubai in 2022. In 2024, the company aims to open two more outside the UK.

In the last quarter of 2023, deliveries of the Rolls-Royce Spectre commenced. Such is the demand for the coupe that the order book has already extended into 2025. The all-electric car is the cornerstone for the brand, not only as its first model solely powered by electricity but also as it embarks the brand on a journey towards a portfolio of fully-electric cars. That status is to be achieved by the end of the decade.
