Zeekr Enters UAE With Two Models

One is a shooting brake, and the other is a compact SUV.

Following last month’s announcement, Zeekr has officially entered the UAE market with its exclusive dealer partner, AW Rostamani. As promised, it begins this new chapter with the launch of two EVs – 001 and X. While both are EVs, the former is a shooting brake, and the latter is a compact SUV. Prices? The Zeekr X starts at AED 170,900, and the Zeekr 001 begins at AED 226,900.

Zeekr, a Geely brand, has a research and development facility in Sweden. Developed at the same location, both models mentioned above are available with a rear-wheel-drive configuration and an all-wheel-drive setup.

Depending on the variant chosen, the Zeekr 001 packs 536hp. That’s enough for a 0-100kmph sprint time of 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 200kmph. The RWD derivative is frugal enough to deliver a WLTP-certified range of up to 620km. The pure-electric powertrain is backed by a 100kWh lithium-ion battery, which, at full blast, can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in 30 minutes. Zeekr says its shooting brake also holds four Guinness records in the EV category.

The Zeekr X, on the other hand, has a 66kWh battery. That offers up to 440km of range (WLTP) and, like the one in the 001, can be replenished from 10 to 80 per cent in half an hour. The most potent version, the all-wheel-drive, packs 422hp. That’s enough for a 3.8-second standard sprint time and a top speed of 190kmph.

Some of the features that are offered include multi-colour ambient lighting, an N95 air filtration system, three-zone automatic climate control, up to 22-inch rims, frameless doors, matrix LED protection headlights, a head-up display, a 13-speaker sound system, a digital instrument cluster and a 15.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Buyers can choose from two interior colourways and four exterior colours for either of the models. Those interested in booking a test drive can do so at the pop-up showroom in the Mall of the Emirates in Dubai until April 3, 2024. Zeekr will open two showrooms in the second quarter of 2024. While one will come up in Rawdhat in Abu Dhabi, the other is being readied at Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai.

MG’s EXE181 Concept electric hypercar pays tribute to a record-breaking car

Global auto expos and concept car unveils go hand in hand and British-born MG continues this tradition at the ongoing 2024 Beijing Auto Show by unveiling an all-electric hypercar concept called the MG EXE181 Concept. If you recall the name from before, Sir Sterling Moss set a land speed record in 1957 with a car called the EX181, which stands to this day. An extra E was added, probably to signify the electric powertrain’s presence, and the design inspiration borrowed from the record-breaking car further helped the concept achieve a drag coefficient of 0.181, explaining the nomenclature behind the concept’s name. MG engineered this car to attain a top speed of 415 km/h and the interior with a streamlined steering wheel and Head-Up Display setup further emphasizes the priority on speed. Tom Lee, Managing Director of MG Motor Middle East, said: “The unveiling of the EXE181 concept is yet another clear demonstration of the eye-catching progress that the MG brand is making both globally and regionally. This concept car embodies MG’s core values of innovation and design excellence, showcasing our commitment to pushing boundaries and shaping the future of automotive technology.”
