The FIA has confirmed a 15-round calendar for the 2027 World Rally Championship, bringing the series back to the United States for the first time since 1988 and restoring a British round after an eight-year absence.
Approved by the FIA World Motor Sport Council, the calendar also introduces a new tarmac event in Rome, replacing the Italian round previously held in Sardinia.
The announcement comes as the WRC prepares to introduce new technical regulations aimed at reducing costs and attracting more constructors.
USA and UK Return to the WRC Calendar
The United States will host Rally US from 26 to 29 August 2027, marking the championship’s first visit to the country in 39 years.
Its inclusion follows a successful candidate event held in June 2026, which allowed the FIA to assess the event’s sporting, safety and operational standards before approving its place on the calendar.
The United Kingdom will also return through Rally Scotland, scheduled for 30 September–3 October.
Based in Aberdeen and developed by Motorsport UK, the gravel event will feature stages across Aberdeenshire and Moray, bringing the championship back to Britain for the first time since 2019.
Both events will reconnect the WRC with established rallying audiences while expanding its presence in North America.
Rome Replaces Sardinia as Italy’s WRC Round
Rome will host Italy’s WRC round in 2027, replacing Rally Italia Sardegna after more than two decades of world championship competition on the island.
Scheduled for 8–11 July, the new Rally d’Italia builds on Rally di Roma Capitale, an established FIA European Rally Championship event that has now earned a place on the world championship calendar.
The event will feature asphalt stages across the Lazio region, bringing a different challenge from the gravel roads traditionally associated with Sardinia.
The 2027 season will begin with Rallye Monte-Carlo on 21–24 January, followed by Sweden and Safari Rally Kenya.
Croatia, the Canary Islands and Japan will form three consecutive tarmac rounds before the championship moves to Greece, Estonia and Finland.
Paraguay and Chile will host the South American rounds, while Rally Saudi Arabia is scheduled to close the season from 25to 28 November.
New Technical Regulations Arrive in 2027
The expanded calendar coincides with the introduction of the WRC27 technical regulations.
The new framework will allow manufacturers and independent constructors to develop and homologate cars for the championship’s highest category, with the price of a competition-ready car in tarmac specification capped at €345,000.
The changes are intended to reduce the financial demands of competing at the highest level and encourage greater participation from manufacturers and independent teams.
Ford has also confirmed plans to return with a full factory programme in 2028, followed by the development of an all-new Rally1 car under the new regulations for 2029.
With the return of two major rallying markets, a new Italian venue and revised technical regulations, the 2027 season will bring several significant changes to the World Rally Championship.
