Twenty-five years ago, Volvo released its first Cross Country trim. This durable and all-weather trim with more cladding, a higher ride height, and some beefier tires was an instant hit. Exploring nature maturely and safely was never easier. Volvo is keen to keep this aura and has taken the Cross Country trim and applied it to their battery-electric EX30.
Lifted higher off the ground, bigger wheels, and even 18-inch all-terrain tires aren’t the only things keeping this Volvo unique. All-wheel drive is standard as of course it should be since this is a Cross Country Volvo. This small BEV SUV has a 427km range (265 miles) and can recharge from 10% to 80% in as quickly as 26 minutes, which as this author estimates is the same time it takes to find a tree, plop a squat, scroll through your phone, and bury the evidence.
Durability and functionality extend on the inside with numerous trick interior bits. The speakers are removed from the door panels and moved to a soundbar on the dash to accommodate larger storage compartments. There is a center storage tunnel between the driver and passenger that can be slid out for your Moscow mule full of Maté. There is a large storage compartment on the floor and the glove box is moved beneath the center console. Rear passengers even get a nifty storage box that slides out and is removable and washable as they’re marketing it as a waste bin as well.
The EX30 Cross Country comes with a host of Google built-ins, which will help get you into the forest and hopefully back out. The EX30 app allows you to even pre-condition the car for warm or cold climates. Safety wasn’t spared either as it has all the Volvo tech to keep you from death or dismemberment if an errant driver decides they want to play bumper cars.
They’re even offering the ‘Cross Country Experience’ which will give you real benefits and bespoke offers. Discounts on accessories such as the load carrier, roof basket, all-terrain tires, and mudflaps will be available, and even more, as further announcements are planned.
Cheers!
