Volkswagen confirms that the new Tiguan will be also electric

It will temporarily cohabit with the ID.4

Now at the end of its life, the second generation Volkswagen Tiguan was facing an uncertain future with the strengthening of anti-pollution standards and the arrival of the electric ID range. It’s now official: the German brand’s flagship SUV will indeed have a third generation, both internal combustion and electric. However, we’ll have to be patient because the new Tiguan will be presented in 2024 and the electric version should arrive even later.

As was the case with the Golf, the Tiguan has a name that is far too important to be replaced. As a result, there will be an ID. Golf but also an ID. Tiguan. And while no photos of the vehicle have yet been released, the first spy shots show a design that is very similar to that of the ID. electric models, with a front end featuring a small grille and large headlights.

The taut lines of the current Tiguan will also be replaced by a more rounded design similar to that of the ID models. But what will happen to the ID.3 and ID.4, which will be very similar to the ID. Golf and ID. Tiguan? Until now, the ID. range had the advantage of electric propulsion and a clearly differentiated design. All these characteristics will logically be lost once the ID. Golf and ID. Tiguan are launched.

Volkswagen’s plan is simple: the combustion and hybrid Tiguan will arrive in 2024 and then the electric ID. Tiguan electric will arrive in 2026, just when the ID.4 will reach the end of its career. It is therefore highly likely that the ID.4 will not be replaced and that the ID. Tiguan will take over. It will then succeed directly to the second generation Tiguan and more indirectly to the ID.4.
