Vietnam Airlines To Resume Direct Hanoi-Moscow Route This Year

A Boeing 787 will ferry passengers.

For those seeking a more convenient route to Russia from Vietnam, the country’s national carrier has some good news. After a three-year pause, Vietnam Airlines has decided to resume its direct services between Hanoi and Moscow.

Set to rejoin the airline’s network on May 8, 2025, the Hanoi-Moscow route will initially operate twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, using a Boeing 787 aircraft. Starting in July next year, Vietnam Airlines will add a third weekly service to increase capacity and cater to the growing demand.

Vietnam Airlines has numerous opportunities to make this route a significant one on the international radar. In 2024, over 220,000 passengers travelled between Russia and Vietnam, equating to a 2.3-fold increase compared to the 2023 figure. However, the 2024 number is about 26 per cent of the passenger traffic between the two nations from 2019. So, a lot of scope for transporting visitors on this route.

Reintroducing the above-mentioned route in 2025 coincides with the airline’s 30th anniversary. Vietnam Airlines plans to launch and reinstate 15 international routes to destinations across Italy, Russia, Denmark, China, Japan, India, South Korea, and the UAE.
