VENEZIANICO LAUNCHES THE NEREIDE ULTRABLACK
An Absolute Black Dial joins Venezianico’s Nereide Diver collection.
Venezianico – is an Italian timepiece brand, founded by two brothers – Alberto and Alessandro Morelli in late 2017. Both the brothers, passionate about timepieces and design, were studying at Ca’Foscari University in Venice, Italy, at the time.
In Venizianico’s own words:
“They began shaping their idea: making watches that show their passion for watchmaking and capture the real feel of Venice, their hometown.”
“One day, while walking in St. Mark’s Square, the two brothers noticed a peculiar detail atop the ancient Clock Tower: a golden Renaissance cross, symbolizing the passage of time in the city of Venice. It was this event that ignited their desire to venture forth, giving birth to a watch brand that would blend their passions.”
“Our brand quickly attracted young talents in design and engineering, becoming a hub of authentic skills led by a strong passion and ambition. Through constant improvement in quality and design, we aim to become the Italian reference company in the watchmaking field.”
Venezianico is driven by the following values: Creativity; Affordable Quality; No Borders; Sustainability; No batteries; Less weight, less consumption and Reusable shipping box.
“Venice has stood out for its pursuit of beauty, its pioneering spirit and its openness to multiple cultures since the Renaissance. Driven by these values, we create iconic watches combining quality with affordability.”
DESIGN:
The Venezianico Nereide Ultrablack combines the exclusive Japanese Musou Black™ paint – to their Nereide diver model, thus creating “a new minimalist design with a significant impact, created in the “non-color” of the deepest space.”
The Nereide is a Diver watch collection from Venezianico, “For those who love water sports.” They are time with centre-seconds and date timepieces. The collection includes the Yacht Club Venezia Limited Edition; Avventurina; Madreperla; Carbonio; Ceramica (4 versions); Tungsteno (2 versions); Ceramica “Vintage”; 42 (4 versions) and 39 (1 version).
The Musou Black™ paint was developed by Koyo Orient Japan Co Ltd in 2020, “and is produced using advanced technologies that ensure its quality and durability over time.” Its main feature is that it absorbs 99.4% of light, thus “transforming the dial into an absolute black; a feature that could not be missing in the iconic Nereide collection”.
The Musou Black™ paint was first used by Venezianico in their Redentore Ultrablack model. The success of this model prompted Venezianico to use the Musou Black™ paint on their Nereide diver model. Ever since the launch of the Redentore Ultrablack, “this mysterious and magnetic non-color has quickly become a distinctive feature of the brand, thanks to numerous requests from the growing community of enthusiasts and followers of the brand.”
The Neriede Ultrablack is the most minimalist or purest design of the entire Nereide collection.
DIAL:
Present on the Nereide Ultrablack’s minimalist dial are the hour and minute hands, centre-second hand and the logo situated a bit below where 12 o’clock would have been. There are no hour markers or minutes track, and there is no text on the dial.
BGWP Super-LumiNova® is present on the top-half of the hour and minute hands, off-centre part of the seconds hand, and the arrow on the bezel. In their own words, “Swiss Super-LumiNova® BGW9 is a luminescent pigment which is sensitive to sunlight or artificial light. It is white in daylight and, once it is charged, it emits a bright blue-green glow in low light conditions, creating a strong contrast on the surface of such a deep dial.”
“The dial, treated with the Japanese paint, creates an effect of absolute black without any shadow or reflection, except for the brand logo inspired by the cross atop the Clock Tower in Piazza San Marco in Venice, and the hands treated with BGW9 Super-LumiNova® that stand out against the black and compact background.”
CASE:
The Nereide Ultrablack’s case is crafted from 316L stainless steel. It has a case diameter of 42mm, and lug to lug distance of 49mm. On the dial side, it has a sapphire glass with anti-reflective coating. On the caseback side, it has engraved graphics – an astronaut standing on the Moon looking at the Earth in the background. In their own words, “The engraved graphics that represent the cosmic vastness provide intense emotions, as if you were immersed in an unknown world, where absolute black is the undisputed king.”
The bezel is crafted from 316L stainless steel and has a total of 120 clicks. The timepiece is water resistant up to 20 ATM or 200 meters.
An elasticized nylon strap with a safety closure complements this timepiece. A Canova bracelet and a rubber band are optional extras.
MOVEMENT:
The Nereide Ultrablack is powered by Seiko NH35A, a mechanical, self-winding calibre. Its functions are hours, minutes, centre-seconds, (and date, though not used in this timepiece.) It also features a second-hand reset or hacking seconds. It has a diameter of 27.40mm and a height of 5.32mm. It comprises of 24 jewels, beats at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations/hour, and has a power reserve of about 41 hours.
