Venezianico introduces the Arsenale, a new Venetian inspired watch

It is inspired by the Arsenale of Venice, an ancient building built in 1104. Available in three dial colours, it features a 40 mm stainless steel case with an integrated bracelet and powered by an automatic movement.

Venezianico, the Venice, Italy based timepiece brand has introduced the Arsenale, a 40 mm two-hander timepiece, housed in a stainless steel case with an integrated bracelet and powered by a Miyota automatic movement.

It is inspired by the Arsenale of Venice, an ancient shipyard.

“Built in 1104, the Arsenale of Venice was a pioneering example of industrial organization. Using advanced techniques for its time, the Serenissima achieved remarkable naval production, becoming a key maritime and industrial power. With assembly line processes and innovative machinery, the Arsenale introduced a new industrial concept that would shape the world for centuries.

This inspired the Morelli brothers to create a watch that honors this historic building and its spirit of innovation: Arsenale, a timepiece that reflects the technical precision and refined design that have long defined the Arsenale.”

Key Features of the Arsenale include:

Violet dial version.

Functions

Central hours and minutes.

Dial

Left: Blue dial closeup. Right: Anthracite dial closeup.

Three dial versions: Violet, Blue, and Anthracite. Each dial features a vertical Côtes de Genève finish.

“The Côtes de Genève finish, used in high-end movements, is achieved through a meticulous process that involves applying delicate parallel waves using rotating brushes. This same principle has been applied to the Arsenale dial, characterized by wavy lines that give it depth and brilliance.”

The hour and minute hands are dauphine-shaped and skeletonized. The 12 baton-shaped hour-markers, made of polished steel, are applied on the dial. A minute track encircles the outer dial, graduated in increments of 5 minutes. “VENEZIANICO” is displayed on the minute track at 6 o’clock. The brand’s logo is applied at 12 o’clock.

Case

Case is made from 316L stainless steel, with alternating polished and satin finishes. Case diameter is 40 mm and thickness is 8.95 mm (including the sapphire crystal). Lug-to-lug distance is 44 mm. Sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on dial side.

Bezel is made from 316L stainless steel. “The polished steel bezel with a knurled texture is one of Arsenale’s distinctive elements, inspired by the two iconic towers that dominate the entrance to the namesake shipyard. The design, which replicates the exact pattern found on the towers, is not just an aesthetic detail, but a symbolic reminder of the historical and technological importance of this building.”  (Third image above.)

Solid caseback, screwed to the main case, features an engraving of the two towers of the Arsenale of Venice. (Fifth image above.) Crown at 3 o’clock features the brand’s logo. Water resistant up to 50 metres.

Bracelet

The Arsenale features the brand’s new Canova Concept™ bracelet.

“One of the model’s strengths is the Canova Concept™ bracelet, an evolution of Venezianico’s iconic design. This bracelet has been redesigned to enhance both aesthetics and comfort, while maintaining the original structure, characterized by the alternation of concave and convex shapes. The links are now flatter and more modern, adorned with two polished bevels, creating an elegant contrast with the satin surfaces. The Canova Concept™ is a perfect synthesis of tradition and innovation, thanks to various handcrafted details that increase its value and improve ergonomics, making it ideal for everyday wear.”

Movement

Powered by Miyota Calibre 9029, an automatic movement which drives the hours and minutes. According to online sources, its diameter is 11 ½ lignes or 26 mm, height is 3.90 mm, features a stop-second device, has 24 jewels, beats at a frequency of 28,800 vph or 4 Hz, and has a power reserve of 42 hours.

Our Thoughts

Venezianico has carved a nice for itself by narrating Venetian stories through its timepieces. We have covered a few of their other timepieces, such as Redentore Bellanotte and Nereide Aureo, and are quite impressed. While I have yet to see their timepieces in the flesh, a collector friend who owns the Redentore Bellanotte is happy with its quality, execution and ownership experience.

The Arsenale tells another story of Venice and conveys it as a minimalistic and modern two-hander timepiece. Two-hander timepieces are often the hardest to execute and get right, yet Venezianico has done a remarkable job with the dial and case details. I quite like the dial with its vertical Côtes de Genève finish, dauphine-shaped skeletonized hands, baton-shaped hour-markers, and absence of text (apart from Venezianico at 6 o’clock). Combine this with a case thickness of only 8.95 mm and the new integrated Canova Concept™ bracelet, Venezianico has a winner on their hands. The Miyota 9029 is a robust and dependable movement, easily serviceable worldwide, and will provide a stress-free ownership experience.

At a price of Euro 656 (without tax), the Arsenale is amazing value. My personal favorite is the blue dial version.
