Mercedes-Benz has recently revealed its midlife refresh of the S-Class flagship, with over half of the vehicle redesigned, reengineered, or updated by the German automaker. As ever, the new S-Class will maintain its status as the ultimate luxury car and include more technology than ever before.
What Changes Has the S-Class Received in Terms of Its Design?
There have been several changes to the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class’s design to differentiate it from its predecessor. One of the most prominent is the optional illuminated Mercedes-Benz logo, which sits on the bonnet alongside an illuminated grille that is around 20 percent larger than before.
In addition, Mercedes-Benz has reworked the DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps, equipping them with dual star-shaped light sources and new micro-LED technology. As the automaker claims, the modified DIGITAL LIGHT features a wider illuminated area, higher resolution, and unique nighttime lighting characteristics.
As for the new S-Class sedan’s design, aside from the new headlight and radiator grille, the sedan’s silhouette does not differ significantly from that of the previous generation.
How Does the New MB.OS: Make the Interior of the Sedan Better?
The flagship of the German automaker will be equipped with the latest version of the MB.OS operating system. This system includes infotainment, connectivity, and other vehicle functions integrated into a single network of the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud.
Owners will be able to update the system with over-the-air updates.
Another novelty of the 2026 S-Class is the latest version of MBUX infotainment, including the Superscreen as standard. Mercedes-Benz has significantly improved the performance of the voice-controlled “Hey Mercedes” assistant and added an updated Zero Layer system.
More complex navigation options have been added, including MBUX Surround Navigation powered by Google Maps, which enables greater accuracy and improved map capabilities.
What Types of Driver Assistance Systems Does the Model Have?
In the new S-Class model, an enhanced MB.DRIVE driver assistance and parking features are included, leveraging improved sensors and computing power.
One of the latest upgrades to the model is MB. DRIVE ASSIST PRO, which is said to allow drivers to use assisted point-to-point navigation in urban traffic. According to Mercedes-Benz, the system will first become available in China and then in the USA and other countries, if permitted.
Comfort and Rear-Seat Features in the S-Class
Mercedes-Benz continues to present its new S-Class as a luxurious sedan, with comfort as the priority for the rear seats.
The First-Class rear compartment package can be equipped with dual 13.1-inch displays, a detachable MBUX remote control, and video conferencing capability for the rear seats.
Other comfort features include heated seat belts, Digital Vent Control, and the improved ENERGIZING AIR CONTROL filtration system that ensures optimal air purity in the cabin.
As for suspension systems, there is a choice of two: the standard AIRMATIC air suspension, as well as the optional E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL system with intelligent damping. Rear axle steering is standard with 4.5 degrees of capability, while the optional 10-degree system increases vehicle manoeuvrability.
Engine Options in the Updated S-Class
The updated S-Class will feature different electrified engines, including inline-six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, V8 engines, and PHEV models.
While Mercedes-Benz has not yet revealed detailed technical information for each version, the company claims the enhanced engines deliver on the S-Class line’s legacy by offering smoothness, refinement, and silence.
The plug-in hybrid model is expected to continue playing an integral role in the lineup.
What Customisation Services Can Be Availed via MANUFAKTUR?
To provide greater customisation options, Mercedes-Benz has launched the MANUFAKTUR Made to Measure service. Customers would have more than 150 exterior body paint choices and more than 400 interior colour combinations to choose from.
Customers can even take advantage of personal consultations with a dedicated MANUFAKTUR expert to create truly bespoke designs for their luxury sedans.
The price range for the updated S-Class model remains unknown at the time of writing, as Mercedes-Benz has not confirmed specific pricing or release dates for each market.
