United Extends Orders With Boeing And Airbus

Chicago-headquartered United Airlines has announced new orders with Airbus and Boeing for purchasing aircraft. With Airbus, the carrier has ordered an additional 60 A321neo jets to further bolster its network closer to home. The airline had previously placed an order for 50 A321XLR and 70 A321neo aeroplanes. To sum up, the direct purchase agreement with the European aircraft manufacturer now stands at 180 units of the A321 jets.

Similarly, United has extended its business with Boeing. The airline has decided to expand its fleet of 787 Dreamliners by placing a new firm order for 50 787-9s with the option to buy an additional 50. Boeing confirms that United has the largest Dreamliner order book on record and is set to become the biggest 787 operator worldwide. In conjunction with last year’s purchase order for 100 787 aircraft, United has a firm order for 150 Dreamliners.

Saudia Group Orders More Airbus Jets

A firm order for an additional 105 Airbus A320neo Family aircraft has been placed by Saudia Group, which owns Saudia, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s (KSA) national flag carrier. The order comprises 12 A320neo and 93 A321neo aircraft, taking Saudia Group’s order backlog with Airbus to 144 A320neo family jets. Of the 105, 54 A321neo aircraft will be added to Saudia’s fleet, whereas flyadeal will get 12 A320neo and 39 A321neo aeroplanes.

Saudia wants to increase flights and seating capacity across its existing network of over 100 destinations across four continents. Specifically, raise capacity to 330 million and expand the number of destinations to 250 by the end of the decade. This will significantly boost KSA’s aviation capabilities and meet the goals of Saudi Vision 2030. The nation targets more than 150 million visitors by 2030, including tourists, entrepreneurs and pilgrims. Achieving this will create more employment opportunities and popularise local content, contributing to the country’s economy.

Eurowings Announces Two New Routes For Winter Season

German low-cost carrier Eurowings has confirmed two new routes for the winter season of 2024/25. Starting October 28, the airline will fly an Airbus A320neo thrice weekly, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, from Cologne/Bonn to Dubai, UAE. The one-way ticket prices for this service start at EUR 179.99. This new route will complement Eurowings’ services to the desert emirate from Berlin and Stuttgart. Those went live last year.

The other new route comes into action on October 30, 2024. Eurowings will operate a flight from Dusseldorf to Cairo, the capital of Egypt. This service will be offered twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays, with one-way ticket prices starting at EUR 139.99.
