This Proves Manhart Can Play Subtle

It might look like a standard M4 Competition, but it does have a party piece.

When Manhart does a project, it usually doesn’t leave any stone unturned. Take the MH4 GTR II, for instance. But, at times, a more subtle approach is needed. One that’s easier on the eye but punchier on the go. And the tuner’s latest creation – the MH4 600 – exemplifies it. Unlike the MH4 GTR II, which is based on the M4 CSL, the MH4 600 is a more powerful take on the M4 Competition.

The 3.0-litre, twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine, which in the M4 Competition produces 510hp/650Nm, has been tweaked to output 635hp/780Nm. That has been achieved using Manhart’s Mhtronik auxiliary control unit. As a result, the sprint from nothing to 100kmph takes less than 4.1 seconds, and if you keep the accelerator pressed hard, 200kmph will come in 10.5 seconds. The MH4 600 also comes with a stainless steel exhaust system, and an option to have tailpipe trim finishers in ceramic or carbon.

There’s also a choice of Manhart downpipes Race without catalytic converters or downpipes Sport with 300-cell GESI catalytic converters. However, just like the OPF Delete replacement pipes with 200-cell HJS catalytic converters and the OPF/GPF Deleter, both variants do not have TÜV approval. Hence, they are meant for markets outside Germany.

The MH4 600 also has a custom suspension. Here, too, there’s an option between two – Manhart lowering using H&R springs or Manhart coilover suspension Variant 4 by KW. Both not only improve the stance of the coupe but also optimise the driving dynamics. The ceramic brakes, however, are carried over from the standard M4 Competition.

As far as the look of the car is concerned, inside-out, it remains mostly unchanged. Even the BMW logos remain. The only tweaks that Manhart has made in this area comprise bespoke radiator grille inserts, side wing inserts and the rear diffuser. All those new additions are made of carbon.

I actually prefer this to one with a gaudy makeover. What’s your take?
