The Tiguan Gets Some Updates In India

Besides a new interior theme, the SUV also packs two new features.

Volkswagen India has given a few updates to its flagship offering – the Tiguan. Courtesy of those changes, the SUV now costs INR 34.69 lakh, or about INR 50,000 more than before. Of course, a price hike is never a welcoming prospect, but what it offers in exchange is something the buyers would appreciate.

The updated Volkswagen Tiguan now has a dual-tone theme indoors. That should liven things up as compared to the all-black affair until now. The lighter colour should also help deliver the sense of a spacious cabin. Next up are the two new feature additions. The first is a wireless charger, while the second is called ‘New Park Assist’. The latter helps park the SUV in tight spaces. All the driver needs to do is push the relevant button and focus on the pedals, and the SUV will steer itself into the vacant space.

The last update is under the bonnet. The 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine now complies with the stricter BS6-II emission norms. However, the output hasn’t changed, meaning there’s 188hp/320Nm on tap. That goes to all four wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Fun fact: the same engine-transmission combination powers multiple other cars, including the Audi Q3 and Skoda Kodiaq.

As before, there’s only one variant available of the Volkswagen Tiguan. In addition to the features mentioned above, it also packs stuff like 30-colour ambient lighting, an 8-speaker sound system, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, three-zone automatic climate control, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED matrix headlights, a 10-inch digital instrument cluster and a panoramic sunroof.

The Volkswagen Tiguan is a solid product, albeit costlier than its direct rivals, such as the Hyundai Tucson and the Citroen C5 Aircross. However, it still costs significantly less than the seven-seat Skoda Kodiaq, which, as mentioned before, has the same powertrain. So, if you had to choose among them, which would it be?
