The Swedes Go Electric! – 2022 Volvo XC40 Recharge
Electric? Compact? Good looking? Yep, the XC40 Recharge is all that!
When it comes to electric cars, why do people think of Tesla? The mainstream brands are now fully active in the electric vehicles segment and how. Volvo is one such brand that has been wanting to have a major slice of the pie and has launched the XC40 Recharge. Essentially, it is very much similar to the XC40s that have internally combustion engines except the engine part. Yes, this is fully electric. I know Volvo uses the “Recharge” nomenclature for its plug-in hybrids also in the XC60 and the XC90. But this is one is pure electric. I know I might have repeated that more than once.
Well, there are some minor changes in the exterior that differentiate it to its fossil fuel powered variants. But to the layman, it might come across as same. Volvo has put in a 78 kw/h battery in the XC40 Recharge, which means it has 201 horsepower and 243 lb.-ft of torque. This helps the XC40 reach the ton from standstill in under 5 seconds. Impressive to say the least. The claimed range from the battery pack is mentioned at 359 kilometers. I did an actual 290 kilometers and I had close to 20% left. I did definitely not drive it efficiently (Hey, the instantaneous torque when you mash the power pedal is immensely fun and I could not resist it whenever I had the chance!) but I am sure with a more efficient driving style, the real-world range would be very close to the claimed range.
