The Moonswatch Moonshine Gold is here

Priced at just $25 more than the regular MoonSwatch ($250), the MoonSwatch Moonshine Gold is only available on March 7, 2023, and is limited to four cities.

About a year ago, Omega and Swatch released a collaboration watch called “MoonSwatch”, a collection of Bioceramic watches representing planets (Mission to the sun, Mission to Mars, Mission to Venus, etc.).

This week, Swatch dropped a cryptic video called “Mission to Moonshine Gold” that teased us. Swatch has effectively taken the MoonSwatch Mission to the Moon and added a golden twist by applying a coating of Omega’s Moonshine Gold made of recycled gold coming out of Swatch Group’s own refinery.

Each golden seconds hand was produced under a full moon in the month of February and comes with a special certificate stating that fact.

The watch is not a limited edition but rather a limited production. Swatch indicates that there will likely be more launch events that will take place under another full moon.

As with the current run of the MoonSwatches, this Mission to Moonshine Gold will not be available online but only in London, Milan, Tokyo and Zurich on March 7, 2023. Why those cities, you may ask? According to Swatch, this is due to their association with gold.

For example, London was chosen for the launch as the price of gold is fixed on a global level, and Zurich as it’s known for its gold reserves.

My Thoughts

When Swatch released their teaser for the Moonshine Gold MoonSwatch, I didn’t think we would get a solid gold MoonSwatch but rather a homage to Omega’s Moonshine Gold Speedmaster. But what Swatch has done is launch a limited production of the Mission to the Moon with a Moonshine Gold chronograph hand. It’s left to see whether Swatch will add more Moonshine gold on the watch for future launches during a full moon or it will be released in another few select cities.
