The Koenigsegg Gemera is your four seat, 2,300 horsepower family car

The ultimate family car for petrolheads is here!

The world’s most powerful and mind boggling family car is here. And no, it is not from Audi, or Mercedes or BMW. It is not from Aston Martin, Ferrari or Lamborghini either. The family car in question comes from Koenigsegg. Avid car lovers would have guessed it by now, yes, the Gemera has made its full debut.

Revealed back in 2020 with some nerve tingling power figures, the Gemera is here in its production spec and the power figures have gone even more scary. When teased three years ago, the Swedish carmaker said that the Gemera would have three electric motors and a three cylinder engine. Both powerhouses together would produce 1,700 hp and 3,500 Nm of torque.

The three cylinder engine (nicknamed ‘The Tiny Friendly Giant’) alone could produce six hundred horsepower thanks to Koenigsegg’s Freevalve technology. Six hundred horsepower. From a three cylinder engine. Insane.

Koenigsegg reworked the Jesko hypercar’s LightSpeed Transmission by flipping it over. The nine-speed LST is special as it does away with a flywheel unlike the Hydracoup Direct Drive transmission that was going to be connected to the three-cylinder. The LST in the Gemera is named the Light Speed Tourbillon Transmission (LSTT).

The LSTT is complemented by a new Raxial Flux electric motor (basically a cross between radial and axial) named ‘Dark Matter’ by Koenigsegg. Proper action film villain stuff. The Dark Matter is the world’s first six-phase automotive-grade E-motor and alone produces 800 hp and 1,250 Nm of torque. Combined with the venomous V8, it thumps out 2,300 hp and 2,750 Nm of torque. Getting the Gemera with the V8-Dark Matter will cost $400,000 extra. A bargain if you ask us.

“We could not resist exploring the possibility of incorporating these remarkable features and benefits into the Gemera production model, leading us down an exciting new development path – the Light Speed Tourbillon Transmission,” says Mr. Koenigsegg.

“Thanks to its new lighter electric propulsion system and optimised use of the TFG’s rev range with the LSTT, the Gemera’s acceleration and performance have been significantly improved compared to the previous version that was already extremely well-performing and fast.” The Gemera with the three-cylinder could do 62mph in 1.9 seconds, so you can work out how rapid the V8 Gemera will be.

CVK further added: “The Gemera HV8 is not only the most powerful and extreme production car on the planet Earth, with an astonishing 1,11 hp per kg, but it is also the most practical and user-friendly sports car ever created. Its incredible response, handling, engine sound, crisp transmission, spacious interior, and four-wheel-drive systems combine to create an unprecedented and unparalleled driving experience, ready to set numerous records of performance around tracks and in straight lines.”

So the Gemera is the ultimate family car for a petrolhead, right? Let us know what you think about it in the comments.
