New Skoda Kodiaq Hides Behind A Wrap

It’ll lose the camouflage this autumn.

In April this year, Skoda teased the all-new Kodiaq, alongside the next-gen Superb, for the first time. Now, courtesy of the new teaser, we’ve got more dope on the upcoming SUV. The latest information builds on what is already known; it’ll be built at Skoda’s Kvasiny plant in East Bohemia; the lifetime sales counter is closing in on 800,000; and will be available with mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid technologies.

The new teaser confirms that the upcoming Kodiaq will be over 6cm longer than its predecessor. That translates to a roomier cabin for living and non-living things (a 75-litre larger boot; more legroom and headroom). Also, it will be available with a seven-seat layout. Other interior-related revelations include “new materials and some new controls, combining touch-sensitive controls with tactile feedback” and the gear shifter for the automatic transmission on the steering column.

For propulsion, there will be a choice among two TSI petrol and two TDI diesel engines, with power output ranging from 148hp to 201hp. Besides those conventional powerplants, the new Skoda Kodiaq will also be available as PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle). Tagged as the Kodiaq iV, it’ll boast an electric-only range of more than 100km. And yes, there will be derivatives with an all-wheel-drive setup.

Another given for the new Kodiaq is a fresh look that will echo Skoda’s latest design language. Expect the use of lettering instead of logos at the back and LED-powered lamps. Since the Superb and Kodiaq have always shared most underpinnings, expect the new ones to do the same. Skoda confirms that the new Kodiaq will make its world premiere in the autumn of 2023.
