Tata Motors Launches Nexon EV Prime

It is available in five variants, with the least expensive one costing INR 14.99 lakh.

Hang on! We have the Nexon EV and the Nexon EV Max, which launched last month. Has Tata Motors launched another version of the Nexon EV? And, it costs around the same as the standard one does? The answer to both those questions is not exactly. What the Indian auto giant has done is rebrand the standard Nexon EV to Nexon EV Prime. And for that added kick, Tata Motors equipped it with a few more features. But, before getting to those details, let’s look at the price list:

So, that ‘Prime’ tag has hiked the prices a bit. But, that new badge also ropes in new features such as multi-mode regen, charing timeout of 110 seconds, cruise control, support for smartwatch connectivity and iTPMS (indirect Tyre Pressure Monitoring System). Moreover, all the existing Nexon EV customers can get these features via a software update. And that service will be provided free of charge by the automaker, starting July 25, 2022.

The rest of the recipe remains unaltered. The Tata Nexon EV Prime come with a single electric motor that produces 127bhp/245Nm. That’s enough for a 0-100kmph sprint time of 9.9 seconds. The powerplant gets its juices from a 30.2 kWh battery, which, when connected to a standard 15amp socket, will take 9 hours and 10 minutes to charge from 10 to 90 per cent. However, the recommended fast charger can replenish the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in about 60 minutes. And the maximum claimed range is 312km.

Besides the features mentioned above, the Tata Nexon EV Prime also comes with stuff like a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8-speaker sound system, a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster and over 35 connected-car features via the ZConnect mobile app.

The Nexon EV is India’s bestselling electric car. And with the ‘Prime’ update, the desirability factor only goes up. The question is – would you settle for the Nexon EV Prime or stretch a bit to buy the Nexon EV Max?
